Among the 3700 HIV-infected patients followed in our institution, 17 with regular clinical, immunological and virological follow-up and identified as being dually seropositive for HIV-1 and HIV-2 were included in this study. Antiretroviral therapy seemed to be as effective, in terms of virological and immunological response, as in patients infected by HIV-1 alone. Nevertheless, the observed selection of HIV-2 protease resistance mutations in two cases underlines the importance of selecting drugs that are active on both viruses.

Background: Many research laboratories have long-term repositories of cryopreserved peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC), which are costly to maintain but are of uncertain utility for immunological studies after decades in storage. This study investigated preservation of cell surface phenotypes and functional capacity of PBMC from viraemic HIV+ patients and healthy seronegative control subjects, after more than 20 years of cryopreservation.
Methods: PBMC were assessed by 18-colour flow cytometry for major lymphocyte subsets within T, B, NK, and dendritic cells and monocytes.

Management of patients living with Human Immunodeficiency Virus/Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) (PLWHA) still represents a challenge for doctors in various medical fields. The presence of co-infections, with different degrees of immune system impairment, raises the need for a multi-disciplinary approach to the PLWHA. In this paper, we present three cases of PLWHA with various ophthalmological conditions, who were admitted to "Prof.

Objectives: To investigate whether SARS-CoV-2 messenger RNA (mRNA) vaccination has an impact on HIV-related viro-immunological parameters.
Methods: People with HIV (PWH) in the VAXICONA-ORCHESTRA cohort who received one or more doses of SARS-CoV-2 mRNA vaccine and for whom paired measures of immuno-virological markers (viral load, clusters of differentiation [CD]4, and CD8 count 1 month before and after a vaccine dose [VD]) were available were included. Paired t-test and generalized estimating equation linear regression analyses were used to study changes over ± 1 month around the VD.

Objectives: Heavily treatment-experienced (HTE) people living with HIV (PLWH) pose unique challenges due to limited antiretroviral treatment (ART) options. Our study aimed to investigate the prevalence and features of HTE individuals followed up in the Italian Cohort Naïve Antiretrovirals (ICONA) cohort as of December 31, 2021.
Methods: HTE were defined based on meeting specific conditions concerning their current ART and their ART history up to December 31, 2021.
