Recently, scanning tunneling microscopy on the Bi-2212 cuprate superconductor has revealed a spatial variation of the energy gap that is directly correlated with a modulation of the apical oxygen position. We identify two mechanisms by which out-of-plane oxygens can modulate the pairing interaction within the CuO2 layer: a covalency between the x2-y2 band and apical p orbital, and a screening of correlation U by apical oxygen polarization. Both effects strongly depend on the apical oxygen position, and their cooperative action explains the experiment.

Phthalocyanine (Pc) is a promising photosensitizer for photodynamic therapy (PDT), offering advantages such as high light stability, strong absorption, efficient singlet oxygen production, and low dark toxicity. This study evaluated the effects of PDT with different photosensitizers on the penetration depth and area of self-adhesive resin cement into dentinal tubules. Forty single-canal, round-shaped lower premolar teeth were prepared using the ProTaper Next system.

We prepared four isomeric phases of CdVO(SeO), α-, β-, γ-, and δ-phases by hydrothermal reactions and characterized their structural, thermal, and magnetic properties. These compounds all exhibit one-dimensional (1D) chains made up of distorted VO square pyramids such that the apical oxygen O of each VO square pyramid acts as the sixth ligand to an adjacent VO square pyramid to form the (V-O···V-O···) chains. The Se ions of the (SeO) anions bridge the basal oxygen atoms O of adjacent VO square pyramids to form the V-O···Se·· O-V spin exchange paths within each (V-O···V-O···) chain in the γ- and δ-phases, but between the adjacent (V-O···V-O···) chains in the α- and βphases.

Background: Traditional Chinese medicines exhibit tremendous beneficial effects on the control of hyperlipidemia and hyperlipidemia-associated disorders. In the present study, we investigated the effects of four Nutt. extracts, including luteolin, marein, naringenin (NGN) and chlorogenic acid (CQA), on lipid accumulation and oxidative stress induced by oleic acid (OA) in HepG2 cells.

Glutamate-induced neurotoxicity can be attenuated via paracrine mechanisms involving mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs). Conditioned medium (CM) from dental MSCs stimulates neuroprotective effects through trophic factors, and melatonin is a known enhancer of the efficacy of conditional media. Here, we investigated the protective effect of CM derived from stem cells from the apical papilla (SCAPs), supplemented without and with melatonin CM (SCAP-CM and Mel-CM), against glutamate-induced PC12 cell apoptosis via the inhibition of intracellular calcium influx and reactive oxygen species (ROS) production.

The Chromosome-Centric Human Proteome Project (C-HPP) is an international initiative. It aims to create a protein list expressed in human cells by each chromosomal and mitochondrial DNA to enhance our understanding of disease mechanisms, akin to the gene list generated by the Human Genome Project. Transmembrane protein 160 (TMEM160) is a member of the transmembrane proteins (TMEM) family.
