Resolution of different types of loops in handwritten script presents a difficult task and is an important step in many classic word recognition systems, writer modeling, and signature verification. When processing a handwritten script, a great deal of ambiguity occurs when strokes overlap, merge, or intersect. This paper presents a novel loop modeling and contour-based handwriting analysis that improves loop investigation. We show excellent results on various loop resolution scenarios, including axial loop understanding and collapsed loop recovery. We demonstrate our approach for loop investigation on several realistic data sets of static binary images and compare with the ground truth of the genuine online signal.

Human adenovirus type 36 (HAdV-D36) has been putatively linked to obesity in animals and has been associated with obesity in humans in some but not all studies. Despite extensive epidemiological research there is limited information about its receptor profile. We investigated the receptor portfolio of HAdV-D36 using a combined structural biology and virology approach.

Background: This research investigated the dynamics of fee-free higher education in South Africa, analysing the interplay of socioeconomic, political, and institutional factors to elucidate the complexities surrounding its implementation and impact. Using a causal loop diagram approach (CLD), the study aims to identify key factors to effective implementation, how they interact to shape the outcome of the policy, and actionable strategies to address the challenges hindering the policy sustainability.

Method: A participatory approach was used to developing the CLD, integrating insights from an extensive literature review and stakeholder opinion.

Tumor microenvironment governs various therapeutic tolerability of cancer such as ferroptosis and immunotherapy through rewiring tumor metabolic reprogramming like Warburg metabolism. Highly expressed carbonic anhydrases (CA) in tumor that maintaining the delicate metabolic homeostasis is thus the most potential target to be modulated to resolve the therapeutic tolerability. Hence, in this article, a self-healable and pH-responsive spermidine/ferrous ion hydrogel loaded with CA inhibitor (acetazolamide, ACZ) and glucose oxidase (ACZ/GOx@SPM-HA Gel) was fabricated through the Schiff-base reaction between spermidine-dextran and oxidized hyaluronic acid, along with ferrous coordination.

We propose and demonstrate, for the first time to the best of our knowledge, an all-polarization-maintaining (all-PM) dual-comb Er-fiber laser based on combined figure-8 and figure-9 architectures. The opposite signs of the non-reciprocal phase shifts required for figure-8 and figure-9 architectures in the shared nonlinear amplifying loop mirror (NALM) are achieved using a single non-reciprocal phase shifter (NRPS) that operates in two orthogonal polarizations. The capability of common mode noise cancellation, environmental stability, long-term reliability, and the tunable range of the repetition rate difference Δ between two combs has been investigated and characterized.

This study investigates (EIG) in a nanohybrid configuration involving a semiconductor quantum dot (SQD) and a core-shell bimetallic nanoparticle coated with graphene. The goal is to optimize interactions between plasmons and excitons. This is achieved by utilizing nanoparticles covered with graphene, which enhances control over surface plasmons.
