Unlabelled: The blue (or purple) toe syndrome consists of the development of blue or violaceous discoloration of one or more toes in the absence of obvious trauma, serious cold-induced injury, or disorders producing generalized cyanosis. The major general categories are: (1) decreased arterial flow, (2) impaired venous outflow, and (3) abnormal circulating blood. Depending on its pathogenesis, the discoloration may be blanching or nonblanching. An accurate diagnosis is critical, because many of the causes threaten life and limb, but the patient's medical history, accompanying nondermatologic findings on physical examination, and a discriminating use of laboratory tests are usually more important than the nature of the cutaneous abnormalities in determining the cause.

In this contribution, facile synthesis of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) at ambient conditions is reported based on the use of the polyphenolic compound quercetin (QT) as the reducing and stabilizing agent at room temperature (RT). Under alkali-induced pH adjustment of QT solution and stirring conditions at RT, QT could quickly reduce gold salt (Au) into its nanoparticle form (Au), resulting in the formation of a sparkling red color colloidal solution (AuNPs) with an absorption maximum at 520 nm. Further, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) was employed to showcase the role of QT in the nanomaterial's synthesis process.

Background/objectives: Hidrocystomas, eccrine and apocrine, are rare cystic lesions that form benign tumors of the sweat glands. This study aimed to describe the clinical features of hidrocystomas and evaluate the role of non-invasive imaging techniques, including dermoscopy, Line-field Confocal Optical Coherence Tomography (LC-OCT), Reflectance Confocal Microscopy (RCM), and Ultra-High-Frequency Ultrasound (UHFUS), in their diagnosis.
Methods: In total, seven cases of hidrocystomas were collected from the Dermatologic Clinic of the University of Siena, Italy.
