Parent-led cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is an efficient, promising form of therapy that may be well suited for autistic youth with anxiety disorders. A recent clinical trial found that parent-led CBT - in which parents led their child through a guided CBT workbook with varying degrees of therapist support - was efficacious for reducing anxiety and associated functional impairment. While such findings demonstrate promise for future intervention development and dissemination efforts with this population, more work is needed to elucidate clinical factors that impact response to treatment as well as drop-out.

Cognitive models posit that negatively biased attention toward dysphoric information has a causal role in the maintenance of depression-related psychopathology. Attention bias modification (ABM) tests this idea by altering an attentional bias and examining subsequent effects on depression. Prior work finds that ABM alters negatively biased attention for dysphoric information and reduces depression; however, a number of studies have failed to show these effects.

Using hierarchical drift diffusion models to elucidate computational mechanisms of reduced reward sensitivity in adolescent major depressive disorder.

BMC Psychiatry

December 2024

Key Laboratory of Brain Functional Genomics (MOE&STCSM), School of Psychology and Cognitive Science, Affiliated Mental Health Center (ECNU), East China Normal University, 3663 North Zhongshan Road, Shanghai, 200062, China.

Background: Anhedonia-a core symptom of major depressive disorder (MDD)-is closely related to diminished reward sensitivity. Nonetheless, the psychopathological and computational mechanism underlying anhedonia in young patients with MDD remains unclear. Therefore, this study aims to investigate reward sensitivity in adolescents and young adults with MDD using computational modelling.

Do meaningful dimensions of childhood adversity exist? Data-driven evidence from two prospective cohort studies.

J Child Psychol Psychiatry

December 2024

Department of Experimental Psychology, Medical Sciences Division, University of Oxford, Oxford, UK.

Background: There is not yet a consensus on the best way to conceptualise adverse childhood experiences (ACEs). We used data-driven methods across two populations to examine (a) if there were meaningful dimensions underlying ACEs and (b) whether dimensions were differentially associated with increased risk of adolescent psychopathology.

Methods: Participants were 18,539 British children from the UK Millennium Cohort Study (MCS) and 11,876 American children from the US Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development Study (ABCD).
