The purpose of the present study was to determine whether a force of 20 cN can be biologically active for tooth movement and to examine the pain intensity during the application of light (20 cN) or heavy (200 cN) continuous forces for 7 days. In the first experiment, a force of 20 cN was applied to eight canines in five volunteers. The mean tooth movement during 10 weeks was 2.4 mm. In the second experiment, two forces of 20 or 200 cN were applied to maxillary premolars in 12 male subjects (aged 24-31 years) to measure pain intensity for 7 days. Spontaneous and biting pain were recorded every 2-4 hours on a 100 mm visual analogue scale (VAS). Wilcoxon signed-rank test was used for statistical analysis. Comparing the VAS score at force initiation with the other time points, there was no significant difference in spontaneous pain for either group, or in biting pain for the light-force group. However, biting pain in the heavy-force group during the time period from 6 to 156 hours was significantly (P < 0.05) greater than that at force initiation. Comparing the VAS scores between the light- and heavy-force group, VAS scores for biting pain in the heavy-force group during the time period from 8 to 100 hours was significantly (P < 0.05) greater than that in the light-force group. A force of 20 cN can move teeth, but pain intensity while biting may be greater approximately 8 hours to 5 days following the application of heavy continuous force compared with light force.

Purpose: Complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) is a debilitating chronic pain condition characterized by sensory, motor, and autonomic dysfunction with a world-wide prevalence of 26.2 per 100,000 people per year and is 3 to 4 times more prevalent in females. Repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) has shown to be beneficial for pain relief in neuropathic pain and initial evidence in CRPS is promising, but studies are limited.

Purpose: To investigate whether functional radiomic features in bilateral hippocampi can identify the cognitively impaired patients from low-back-related leg pain (LBLP).
Patients And Methods: For this retrospective study, a total of 95 clinically definite LBLP patients (40 cognitively impaired patients and 45 cognitively preserved patients) were included, and all patients underwent functional MRI and clinical assessments. After calculating the amplitude of low-frequency fluctuations (ALFF), regional homogeneity (ReHo), voxel-mirrored homotopic connectivity (VMHC) and degree centrality (DC) imaging, the radiomic features (n = 819) of bilateral hippocampi were extracted from these images, respectively.
Unlabelled: Exacerbations of existing low back pain (LBP) or new LBP episodes are colloquially referred to as "flares". Although the experience of flares is common to many people with LBP, few validated measures enable people to self-report if they are experiencing a flare. This study examined the convergent validity of a person-dependent definition of flares ("a worsening of your low back pain that lasts from hours to weeks") as compared to (1) LBP intensity, (2) LBP-related pain interference, and (3) analgesic use, in a large, prospective research study of Veterans with LBP.

Background: Pain management in pediatric patients during dental procedures is very important. Here, the traditional method of behavior management is compared with novel methods.
Aim: To compare and determine the effectiveness of an external cooling and vibrating device vs counterstimulation with the conventional technique in reducing the fear and discomfort of pediatric dental patients aged 5-7 years during inferior alveolar nerve block (IANB).

Purpose The infrapatellar fat pad (IFP) has the lowest pain threshold among all knee joint components and causes anterior knee pain after knee arthroplasty. It has been reported that selective muscle atrophy of the vastus medialis (VM) and fibrosis of the IFP may develop following knee joint surgery. Ultrasound enables visualization of IFP deformation (A1) from within the joint to the proximal area in response to muscle contraction, and this may be helpful in developing preventive and therapeutic strategies for IFP fibrosis.
