Coherent manipulation of photochemical spin-triplet formation in quantum dot-molecule hybrids.

The interconversion between singlet and triplet spin states of photogenerated radical pairs is a genuine quantum process, which can be harnessed to coherently manipulate the recombination products through a magnetic field. This control is central to such diverse fields as molecular optoelectronics, quantum sensing, quantum biology and spin chemistry, but its effect is typically fairly weak in pure molecular systems. Here we introduce hybrid radical pairs constructed from semiconductor quantum dots and organic molecules.

Does light or heat play a seminal role in photo-rechargeable batteries? This study unravels the effects of light in the exciton formation and separation processes in a photocathode, leading to the charging or de-intercalation of Li ions in a lithium-ion battery. Light induced oxidation of Ti to Ti in the Li(TiS-TiO) heterostructure cathode is shown here, while heating does not elicit such changes. With the aid of photogenerated electrons at the cathode, the de-lithiated Li ions from Li(TiS-TiO) get intercalated in the graphite anode during the photocharging process.

Antibiotic residues cause water contamination and disrupt aquatic ecosystems. Herein, we reported the fabrication of a novel Z-scheme heterojunction, MIL-88A(Fe)/TiC/MoO (MTO), for safe and efficient removal of antibiotics. TiC was introduced into the MIL-88A(Fe)/MoO (MO) heterojunction as an electronic mediator to accelerate charge separation.

The pressing necessity to mitigate climate change and decrease greenhouse gas emissions has driven the advancement of heterostructure-based photocatalysts for effective CO₂ reduction. This study introduces a novel heterojunction photocatalyst formed by integrating potassium-doped polymeric carbon nitride (KPCN) with metallic Zn₃N₂, synthesized via a microwave-assisted molten salt method. The resulting Schottky contact effectively suppresses the reverse diffusion of electrons, achieving spatial separation of photogenerated charges and prolonging their lifetime, which significantly enhances photocatalytic activity and efficiency.

Chlorpyrifos (CPF), a widely used organophosphorus pesticide, presents substantial risks to both environmental and human health due to its persistent accumulation, thereby necessitating the development of effective detection methods. Self-powered photoelectrochemical (PEC) sensors, as an innovative technology, address the limitations inherent in conventional sensors, such as susceptibility to interference and inadequate signal response. Herein, we synthesized AgS/BiOCl as a photosensitive material, employing it as a light-harvesting substrate and a signal-transducing platform to develop a self-powered PEC sensor for the detection of CPF.
