In the cyanobacterial RuBisCO operon from Thermosynechococcus elongatus the rbcX gene is juxtaposed and cotranscribed with the rbcL and rbcS genes which encode large and small RuBisCO subunits, respectively. It has been suggested that the rbcX position is not random and that the RbcX protein could be a chaperone for RuBisCO. In this study, the RbcX protein from T. elongatus was overexpressed, purified and preliminary functional studies were conducted. The recombinant protein purified from Escherichia coli extracts was predominantly present in a soluble fraction in a dimeric form. Coexpression experiments have demonstrated that RbcX can mediate RbcL dimer (L(2)) formation, and that it is essential for the L(8) core complex assembly. This is the first characterization of the RbcX protein from a thermophilic organism.

Hornworts are the only land plants that employ a pyrenoid to optimize Rubisco's CO fixation, yet hornwort Rubisco remains poorly characterized. Here we assembled the hornwort Anthoceros agrestis Rubisco (AaRubisco) using the Arabidopsis thaliana SynBio expression system and observed the formation of stalled intermediates, prompting us to develop a new SynBio system with A. agrestis cognate chaperones.

This manuscript describes a novel approach for treating patients with long-term sequelae from hemoglobin Evans (Hb Evans). After instituting conservative therapies for approximately 2 years, our patient's symptoms continually worsened. Therefore, we performed red blood cell exchange (RBCx) to reduce his Hb Evans percentage and his co-existing elevation of methemoglobin.

The aim of our study was to assess the efficacy of red blood cell exchange (RBCx) using a Spectra Optia® automated apheresis system in children with sickle cell disease (SCD). We used automated RBCx to treat acute and chronic complications in 75 children with SCD who had a median age of 10 years [7-13]. We analyzed 649 RBCx sessions.

The photoautotrophic growth rate of cyanobacteria is a culmination of several factors including, rates of photosynthetic reactions, stress combating mechanisms and basic biomass generation metabolism in combination with optimal nutrient availability, irradiance, gaseous environment, etc. In case of cyanobacteria, the effect of RuBisCO in affecting the multiplication rate has been observed to show varied response.
