Pathology-Independent Expansion of Indications for Rapid-Deployment Aortic Valve Replacement: Midterm Outcomes.

Thorac Cardiovasc Surg

January 2025

Department of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, Seoul National University Hospital, Seoul National University College of Medicine, Seoul, Republic of Korea.

Background:  This study evaluated the midterm outcomes of rapid deployment aortic valve replacement (RDAVR) performed regardless of pathology for various aortic valve diseases at a single center.

Methods:  Of the 344 patients who underwent RDAVR using Edwards INTUITY during the study period at our institution, 176 had bicuspid valve diseases (51.2%), 20 had pure aortic regurgitation (5.

Non-Canonical TERT Activity Initiates Osteogenesis in Calcific Aortic Valve Disease.

Circ Res

January 2025

Division of Cardiology, Department of Medicine, Pittsburgh Heart, Lung, Blood and Vascular Medicine Institute, University of Pittsburgh, PA. (R.A.C., C.C.C., R.W., A.C., C.B., C.R., W.J.M., M.J. Bashline, A.P., A.M.P., P.B., M.J. Brown, C.S.H.).

Background: Calcific aortic valve disease is the pathological remodeling of valve leaflets. The initial steps in valve leaflet osteogenic reprogramming are not fully understood. As TERT (telomerase reverse transcriptase) overexpression primes mesenchymal stem cells to differentiate into osteoblasts, we investigated whether TERT contributes to the osteogenic reprogramming of valve interstitial cells.

Unraveling the molecular complexity of bicuspid aortopathy: Lessons from comparative proteomics.

Molecular markers and pathways involved in the etiology and pathophysiology of bicuspid aortopathy are poorly understood. The aim here is to delve into the molecular and cellular mechanisms of the disease and identify potential predictive molecular markers using a well-established isogenic hamster model (T-strain) of bicuspid aortic valve (BAV) and thoracic aortic dilatation (TAD). We carried out comparative quantitative proteomics combined with western blot and morpho-molecular analyses in the ascending aorta of tricuspid aortic valve (TAV) and BAV animals from the T-strain, and TAV animals from a control strain.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to determine the indication and optimal timing for performing a hemiarch procedure in patients undergoing valve-sparing root replacement (VSRR).

Methods: We conducted a retrospective study on 986 patients undergoing VSRR at three tertiary care centres. Inclusion criteria were all patients undergoing elective VSRR.
