Published: November 2008

Objective: To explore the applicable value of ultrasound guidance in percutaneous renal biopsy.

Methods: 168 patients with kidney diseases underwent ultrasound-guided renal biopsy. Pathological examination was conducted. Predictors of successful rate were assessed by multivariate logistic regression analysis.

Results: Successful biopsy was achieved in 157 of the 168 patients with a success rate of 93.45%. Satisfying results were obtained from 143 of the 157 samples and normal renal tissues were reported in 14 samples. No serious adverse events were observed in this study. The successful biopsy rate of female patients was 89.16%, significantly lower than that of the male patients (97.65%, P < 0.05). Age, puncture times, thickness of renal cortex, and type of clinical diagnosis were not significantly correlated with the successful rate of biopsy.

Conclusion: Ultrasound-guided renal biopsy is a kind of safe diagnostic method for kidney disease. The successful rate of renal biopsy in females is lower than that in males.

RNA N6-methyladenosine (m6A) plays diverse roles in RNA metabolism and its deregulation contributes to tumor initiation and progression. Clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) is characterized by near ubiquitous loss of followed by mutations in epigenetic regulators , , and . Mutations in , a histone H3 lysine 36 trimethylase (H3K36me3), are associated with reduced survival, greater metastatic propensity, and metabolic reprogramming.

Background: As ferroptosis is a key factor in renal fibrosis (RF), iron deposition monitoring may help evaluating RF. The capability of quantitative susceptibility mapping (QSM) for detecting iron deposition in RF remains uncertain.

Purpose: To investigate the potential of QSM to detect iron deposition in RF.

Integrin Trafficking, Fibronectin Architecture, and Glomerular Injury upon AdipoR1 Depletion.

Research Program for Clinical and Molecular Metabolism, Faculty of Medicine, University of Helsinki, Helsinki, Finland.

Background: Deficiency of adiponectin and its downstream signaling may contribute to the pathogenesis of kidney injury in type 2 diabetes. Adiponectin activates intracellular signaling via adiponectin receptors 1 and 2 (AdipoR1 and AdipoR2), but the role of AdipoR-mediated signaling in glomerular injury in type 2 diabetes remains unknown.

Methods: The expression of AdipoR1 in the kidneys of people with type 2 diabetes and the expression of podocyte proteins or injury markers in the kidneys of AdipoR1-knockout (AdipoR1-KO) mice and immortalized AdipoR1-deficient human podocytes were investigated by immunohistochemistry and immunoblotting.

Nuclear factor of activated T-cells 5 (NFAT5) is a transcription factor known for its role in osmotic stress adaptation in the renal inner medulla, due to the osmotic gradient that is generated between the renal cortex and renal inner medulla. However, its broader implications in kidney injury and chronic kidney disease (CKD) are less understood. Here we used two different Cre deleter mice (Ksp1.

Objective: To evaluate the association between tumour size and the growth rate (GR) of small renal masses (SRMs) in patients managed by active surveillance (AS).

Materials And Methods: We queried the prospective, multi-institutional Delayed Intervention and Surveillance for Small Renal Masses (DISSRM) registry for patients on AS with an imaging interval of ≥6 months, identifying 456 patients. We tracked tumour size over time; a GR >0.
