A convenient plate assay which is sensitive to medium pH has been developed to evaluate potential siderophores of Candida albicans. Adding a siderophore to a filter paper disk on chemically defined Lee's agar (final pH 7.2) seeded with the test strain reversed the growth inhibitory effects of the supplemented (25-100 micrograms/ml) iron chelator ethylenediaminedi(o-hydroxyphenylacetic acid), to provide a zone of growth stimulation. This bioassay has been used to demonstrate the structure-activity relationships of ferrichrome and several water-soluble hydroxamate peptide building blocks of this natural siderophore. Of all compounds so evaluated, ferrichrome exhibited the best activity.

Invasive fungal infections cause over 3.7 million deaths worldwide annually, underscoring the critical need for new antifungal agents. Developing selective antifungal agents is challenging due to the shared eukaryotic nature of both fungal and mammalian cells.

In this study, a nanocomposite based on copper oxide-zinc oxide nanoparticles and Gum Arabic (GA@CuO-ZnO nanocomposite) was successfully synthesized using green method. Characterization results revealed that the prepared nanocomposite appeared at the nanoscale level, showed excellent dispersion, and formed stable colloidal nano-solutions. The bimetallic GA@CuO-ZnO nanocomposite was evaluated for its anticancer, antibacterial, and antifungal properties.

Purpose: To evaluate the physical and mechanical properties after brushing and microbial adhesion of printed resins (PRs) and heat-polymerized resins (HRs) for occlusal devices (ODs).
Materials And Methods: Knoop microhardness and roughness were evaluated in three measurements before and after brushing with detergent or dentifrice. Flexural strength and modulus of elasticity were assessed by 3-point bending, and the adhesion of Candida albicans and Streptococcus mutans was evaluated by colony-forming units per milliliter (CFU/mL) and metabolic activity using the XTT assay only without brushing.

Based on DMR022 [(AEEA-Gly)-AEEA-amphotericin B methyl ester, AEEA is the abbreviation of 8-amino-3,6-dioxaoctanoic acid] and DMR031 [(AEEA)-amphotericin B methyl ester], DMR040 [(AEEA)-amphotericin B methyl ester] was further designed and synthesised. Firstly, DMR040 was assessed for its antifungal activity and haemolytic toxicity with the broth dilution method and sterile defibrinated sheep blood, respectively. The minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) of DMR040 (2 μg/mL) against Candida albicans ATCC 10231 and ATCC 90028 was reduced by 2 times compared to that of amphotericin B (1 μg/mL).
