Background: Microvessel quantification has been studied extensively as a factor reflecting angiogenesis in various malignant tumors. The aim of our study was to evaluate the vascular fractal dimension and the immunohistochemically positive total vascular area in oral cavity carcinomas in order to assess their potential value as factors reflecting angiogenesis.

Methods: Histologic sections from 48 carcinomas and 17 nonmalignant mucosa specimens were evaluated by image analysis using fractal analysis software. Total vascular area was also quantified.

Results: Carcinomas presented higher mean values of vascular fractal dimension and total vascular area compared to normal mucosa. The difference for the vascular fractal dimension was statistically significant.

Conclusions: This study provides evidence that vascular fractal dimension could be used as a reliable factor reflecting angiogenesis in oral squamous cell carcinoma and that there are several statistically significant correlations among total vascular area, vascular fractal dimension, nuclear size, and clinicopathologic factors.

Background: Prostate cancer (PCa) is the leading cause of cancer-related morbidity and mortality in men worldwide. An early and accurate diagnosis is crucial for effective treatment and prognosis. Traditional invasive procedures such as image-guided prostate biopsy often cause discomfort and complications, deterring some patients from undergoing these necessary tests.

Background: Recent studies have focused on evaluating the biomarker value of textural features in radiological images. Our study investigated whether or not a texture analysis of computed tomographic colonography (CTC) images could be a novel biomarker for colorectal cancer (CRC).

Methods: This retrospective study investigated 263 patients with CRC who underwent contrast-enhanced CTC (CE-CTC) before curative surgery between January 2014 and December 2017.

The diagnostic and prognostic value of quantitative electroencephalogram (qEEG) in the the onset of postoperative delirium (POD) remains an area of inquiry. We aim to determine whether qEEG could assist in the diagnosis of early POD in cardiac surgery patients. We prospectively studied a cohort of cardiac surgery patients undergoing qEEG for evaluation of altered mental status.

Purpose: To assess the retinal microvasculature of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) patients using Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography (OCTA).

Methods: Twenty adult SLE patients without disease activity and no ocular manifestations were recruited and cross-sectionally assessed. A demographically similar cohort of healthy subjects was used for comparison.

Accurate grading of gliomas is critical to guide therapy and predict prognosis. The presence of microvascular proliferation is a hallmark feature of high grade gliomas which traditionally requires targeted surgical biopsy of representative tissue. Superb microvascular imaging (SMI) is a novel high resolution Doppler ultrasound technique which can uniquely define the microvascular architecture of whole tumours.
