Objective: Gossip-evaluative talk about an absent third party-exists in surgical residency programs. Attending surgeons may engage in gossip to provide residents with feedback on performance, which may contribute to bias. Nevertheless, the perspectives of attending surgeons on gossip has not been studied.

Background: The ability to recognize and address bias is an important communication skill not typically addressed during training. We describe the design of an educational curriculum that aims to identify and change behavior related to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). "DEI at the Bedside" uses the existing infrastructure of bedside teaching and provides a tool to normalize DEI discussions and develop skills to address bias during a neurology inpatient rotation.

Shared decision-making involves patients engaging with their physicians to make informed decisions regarding treatment selection, a process that empowers patients and ensures that treatment decisions reflect their individual values and preferences. However, shared decision-making can be challenging to implement for various reasons, including time, staffing, or resource limitations at community practices and differences in patients' cultural backgrounds or health literacy. In this podcast, we discuss how to ensure that individual patients' needs and concerns are addressed, including an overview of different approaches for initial consultations, strategies for tailoring conversations based on a patient's background or health literacy, and trustworthy resources that can help improve patients' understanding.

Patient engagement in healthcare delivery processes has been increasingly emphasized in recent years, which can be accomplished in part by Patient Advisory Councils (PACs). Although well-established in brick-and-mortar facilities, the use of PACs in pure telehealth settings is limited. Bicycle Health, a digital health organization that provides biopsychosocial treatment of opioid use disorder (OUD) via telehealth, sought to increase patient engagement regarding care delivery and innovation, ultimately launching a telehealth Patient Advisory Council.
