Case report--an iatrogenic foreign body in the airway.

We report a case of an iatrogenic foreign body in the airway. An 80-year-old patient who had undergone major head and neck surgery several weeks early presented as an inpatient with a persistent cough and recurrent chest infections. Fibreoptic nasendoscopy revealed the presence of a nasopharyngeal airway sitting vertically in the airway. This foreign body presented indolently as it was cannulated. We suggest that in such patients, readers should be aware of this possible underlying iatrogenic cause of respiratory complications.

The incidence of multiple magnetic foreign body (MMFB) ingestion in children is rising, which poses a serious risk for gastrointestinal tract injury. In the current study, the clinical characteristics were analyzed to enhance awareness among parents and caregivers, treatment experiences were summarized and discussed, and optimal treatment plans were identified. A retrospective analysis was performed on 130 pediatric patients with MMFB ingestion at the Children's Hospital Affiliated with Zhejiang University School of Medicine, between June 2016 and June 2023.

Biomaterial scaffold engineering presents great potential in promoting axonal regrowth after spinal cord injury (SCI), yet persistent challenges remain, including the surrounding host foreign body reaction and improper host-implant integration. Recent advances in mechanobiology spark interest in optimizing the mechanical properties of biomaterial scaffolds to alleviate the foreign body reaction and facilitate seamless integration.
