The Volga, which is the largest river in Europe (3690 km long), flows from the north (Tver' region) to the south (Caspian Sea), and its extensive basin (1380 km2) includes very different biotopes. Thus, analysis ofthe occurrence of Paramecium species along this large river basin may significantly enhance our understanding of species distribution according to temperature regime, food richness and other possible factors. The present paper concerns the occurrence of species of the P. aurelia complex in the sampling areas of the Upper Volga River, and a comparison with the occurrence of species of the P. aurelia complex in the Lower Volga region. In the Upper Volga basin, P. biaurelia was the most abundant among species of the complex recorded (among P. triaurelia, P. decaurelia, P. dodecaurelia), in the Lower Volga region eight species of the complex were recorded (P. primaurelia, P. biaurelia, P. triaurelia, P. pentaurelia, P. sexaurelia, P. septaurelia, P. novaurelia, P. decaurelia).

In this study, the effects of different combinations of the genes , , and injected both using direct virus-mediated injection (adenovirus, Ad5) and umbilical cord blood mononuclear cells (UCBCs) on the processes of stimulation of post-ischemic innervation, angiogenesis, and regeneration in skeletal muscle were investigated in a rat hindlimb chronic ischemia model. It was shown that more pronounced stimulation of angiogenesis and restoration of post-ischemic innervation were achieved both in the early (28 days post-ischemia, dpi) and late (42 dpi) terms of the experiment in the calf muscle when UCBCs delivered the combination of Ad5- and Ad5- compared to the direct injection of the same vector combination into the area of ischemia. At the same time, the inclusion of Ad5- in the combination of Ad5- and Ad5- directly injected or administered by UCBCs provided a significant increase in the number of centronuclear muscle fibers, indicating stimulation of post-ischemic reparative myogenesis.

We tested whether one of the consequences predicted for alien plant invasion by the mutualism disruption hypothesis was true in the case of the ash-leaved maple Acer negundo L. The study aimed to determine whether the occurrences of mycorrhizal and nonmycorrhizal herbs varied similarly or differently in communities with varying degrees of A. negundo dominance.

The study investigated ash development in an arid region, focusing on its invasive spread mechanisms at organismic and ecosystem levels under varying moisture conditions. Conducted in the Northern Caspian region's Volga-Urals interfluve, it examined the effects of arid climate, soil salinity, and limited moisture on plant communities. The features of ash functioning at the organismal and ecosystem levels with permanent and partial deficiency of productive moisture in the soil, as well as with its optimal availability, were investigated.

One of the top ecological priorities is to find sensitive indicators for pollution monitoring. This study focuses on the bioconcentration and responses (condition index, survival, oxygen consumption, heart rates, and oxidative stress and neurotoxic effect biomarkers) of mussels from the Volga River basin, Dreissena polymorpha and Dreissena bugensis, to long-term exposure to toxic chemicals such as tributyltin (TBT, 25 and 100 ng/L) and copper (Cu, 100 and 1000 μg/L). We found that TBT was present in the tissues of zebra and quagga mussels in comparable amounts, whereas the bioconcentration factor of Cu varied depending on its concentration in water.

Chitosan takes second place of the most abundant polysaccharides naturally produced by living organisms. Due to its abundance and unique properties, such as its polycationic nature, ability to form strong elastic porous films, and antibacterial potential, it is widely used in the food industry and biomedicine. However, its low solubility in both water and organic solvents makes its application difficult.
