Hydrolysis of acetylthiocholine mediated by acetylcholine esterase yields the thiol-bearing compound thiocholine. At trace concentrations, thiocholine modulates the growth of Au-Ag nanoparticles on seeding gold nanoparticles in the presence of ascorbic acid. Inhibition of the enzyme by 1,5-bis(4-allyldimethylammoniumphenyl)pentan-3-one dibromide (BW284c51) or by diethyl p-nitrophenyl phosphate (paraoxon) produces lower yields of thiocholine, promoting the catalytic growth of Au-Ag nanoparticles. Here, we describe the development of a simple and sensitive colorimetric assay for the detection of AChE inhibitors.

The precise design and synthesis of Au and Ag composite nanomaterials can provide them with richer plasmonic modes, resulting in enhanced optical properties. Here, a novel strategy was demonstrated to control the selective deposition of Ag at different positions of Au triangular nanoprisms (Au TNPs). 1,4-benzenedithiol (BDT) was selectively absorbed in different positions of Au TNPs which made Ag selectively deposited on Au TNPs.

In this study, a core-shell structured bimetallic nano-cube, Au@Ag NCs, was prepared by seed-mediated growth procedure. The array structure of Au@Ag NCs was achieved at the interface through the autonomous assembly technique at the three-phase boundary. Employing polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) as a flexible carrier, the array structure was effortlessly transferred to the PDMS membrane, bypassing the need for rigid substrates through a simple "pasting" method.

Copper (Cu)-based nanocatalysts play crucial roles in the electrochemical CO reduction reaction (ECORR) for sustainable energy resources. Particularly, Cu-based nanostructures incorporating Au and Ag are promising, offering enhanced activity, selectivity, and stability. However, precise control over the structure and composition of heterostructures remains challenging, hindering the development of highly efficient catalysts.

Colloidal solutions of gold nanorods and silver-coated gold nanorods were prepared. The seeded growth synthesis protocols were improved by adding a flocculation purification step. The resulting populations of pure gold nanorods and Au@Ag core-shell cuboids were characterized by very low dispersion in size and shape.
