HPV vaccine hesitancy in the United States.

Curr Opin Pediatr

January 2025

Section of Hospital Medicine, Department of Pediatrics, University of Colorado School of Medicine, Aurora, Colorado, USA.

Purpose Of Review: Human papillomavirus (HPV) is the most common STI and accounts for roughly 37 000 HPV-associated cancers annually in the United States. Ongoing Symptoms and Concerns Experienced by Low-Risk Breast Cancer Survivors Following Active Treatment.

Ann Surg Oncol

January 2025

Department of Surgery, School of Medicine and Public Health, Wisconsin Surgical Outcomes Research Program, University of Wisconsin, Madison, WI, USA.

Introduction: Little is known about the symptom burden of breast cancer survivors with early-stage disease. Many studies have focused on symptoms of patients who are undergoing or recently completed systemic therapy. However, with the increased use of Oncotype DX, the proportion of early-stage hormone receptor-positive patients who undergo chemotherapy has declined, making existing studies of the symptom experience less useful for these patients.

Evolution of different forearm flap designs in phalloplasty.

Ann Chir Plast Esthet

Phalloplasty is one of the most complex procedures in plastic surgery. The free forearm flap has become the gold standard for phallic reconstruction.

Emerging insights into the genetics and evolution of human same-sex sexual behavior.

Trends Genet

January 2025

Centre for Psychology and Evolution, School of Psychology, University of Queensland, Queensland, Australia.

Thanks to twin studies, it has been known for decades that human same-sex sexual behavior (SSB) has a substantial heritable component. However, only recently have large genome-wide association studies (GWAS) begun to illuminate the complex genetics involved. These studies have established that SSB is influenced by many common genetic variants, each with tiny but cumulative effects.

The developmental and genetic basis of male genitalia evolution in Drosophilids.

Curr Opin Insect Sci

January 2025

Department of Genetics and Developmental Biology, The Rappaport Faculty of Medicine and Research Institute, Technion - Israel Institute of Technology, Haifa 3109601, Israel. Electronic address:

Reproductive organs are among the most variable and rapidly evolving structures in the animal kingdom, probably due to sexual selection. In insects, the diverse morphology of male genitalia is often one of the few visible characteristics that can reliably distinguish closely related species, making it crucial for taxonomic classification. Consistent with this, males of the model organism Drosophila melanogaster and its closely related species display remarkable variations in genital morphology.
