The mechanism by which the eye dynamically changes focal distance (accommodation), and the mechanism by which this ability is lost with age (presbyopia), are still contested. Due to inherent confounding factors in vivo, in vitro measurements have been undertaken using a robotic lens stretcher to examine these mechanisms as well as the efficacy of lens refilling - a proposed treatment for presbyopia. Dynamic forces, anterior and posterior curvatures, and lens thickness are all correlated for young natural and refilled porcine lenses. Comparisons are made to lenses refilled with a homogeneous polymer system. The amplitude of accommodation of the young porcine lens is very small such that it may be a suitable model for presbyopia. The behavior of refilled lenses was highly dependent on the refill volume. The volume could be tuned to maximize accommodative amplitude in the refilled lens.
The model of circular bipolar complex fuzzy (Cir-BCF) sets computed based on the membership function, non-membership function, and radius among both functions for each value of the universal set. The technique of the Cir-BCF set is the modified or extended form of fuzzy sets, complex fuzzy sets, bipolar fuzzy sets, bipolar complex fuzzy sets, and simple circular bipolar fuzzy sets to cope with uncertain and vague information. In this manuscript, we describe the novel technique of frank operational laws based on Cir-BCF values for frank t-norm and frank t-conorm.

Lattice-oxygen is highly oxidizable, ideal for electrocatalytic C-H oxidation but insufficient alone for C(O)-C bond cleavage due to the non-removable nature of lattice sites. Here, we present a visible light-assisted electrochemical method of in situ formulating removable lattice-oxygen sites in a nickel-oxyhydroxide (ESE-NiOOH) electrocatalyst. This catalyst efficiently converts aromatic alcohols and carbonyls with C(O)-C fragments from lignin and plastics into benzoic acids (BAs) with high yields (83-99 %).
In addition to inducing xylem embolism, freeze-thaw events can cause frost fatigue phenomena. Freezing temperature, freezing times, number of freeze-thaw cycles and frost drought can affect the level of freeze-thaw-induced embolism, but it is unknown whether there is an effect on frost fatigue. We assessed whether these frost-related factors changed frost fatigue in the three diffuse-porous species by simulating freeze-thaw treatments under different conditions.
