Purpose: Physiologic uptake of 2-[(18)F]-fluoro-2-deoxy-D: -glucose (FDG) by bowel can confound positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) assessment for abdominal pathology, particularly within the bowel itself. We wished to determine if oral administration of the antimotility agent, Lomotil (5 mg diphenoxylate hydrochloride/0.05 mg atropine sulfate; G.D. Searle and Company, a division of Pfizer), prior to PET/CT scanning would reduce physiologic uptake of FDG by the small bowel and colon (lower gastrointestinal [GI] tract).
Procedures: Patients undergoing PET/CT scans for lymphoma were enrolled in a prospective, randomized, double-blinded study and received either 10 mL water (control group) or 10 mL Lomotil (experimental group) orally 30-60 min prior to scanning. Scans were reviewed independently by two blinded experienced readers and scored for the degree of FDG activity in the lower GI tract relative to liver activity.
Results: The administration of Lomotil prior to PET/CT scanning did not reduce physiologic FDG activity in the small bowel and colon. In contrast, increased radiotracer uptake by the lower GI tract was observed in the Lomotil group compared to the control group.
Conclusions: Pretreatment with Lomotil prior to PET/CT scanning confers no benefit toward the reduction of physiologic FDG uptake by the small bowel and colon.

Background: Clinical severity and progression of lung disease in cystic fibrosis (CF) are significantly influenced by the degree of lung inflammation. Non-invasive quantitative diagnostic tools are desirable to differentiate structural and inflammatory lung changes in order to help prevent chronic airway disease. This might also be helpful for the evaluation of longitudinal effects of novel therapeutics.

Objectives: To assess the prognostic value of Fluorine 18-labeled fluorodeoxyglucose [F]FDG, gallium 68-labeled fibroblast-activation protein inhibitor-04 [Ga]Ga-FAPI-04, C-acetate in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and evaluate the potential usefulness and advantages of different combinations for accurate diagnosis.
Materials And Methods: Thirty-six patients with suspected hepatic masses were prospectively enrolled from May 2021 to September 2022 and underwent [F]FDG, [Ga]Ga-FAPI-04, and C-acetate PET/CT scans before surgery. PET/CT results and histopathologic examinations were independently interpreted by two radiologists and pathologists, respectively.

Aim: The combination of positron emission tomography (PET) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) provides an innovation leap in the use of fertilized chicken eggs (in ovo model) in preclinical imaging as PET/MRI enables the investigation of the chick embryonal organ-specific distribution of PET-tracers. However, hybrid PET/MRI inheres technical challenges in quantitative in ovo PET such as attenuation correction (AC) for the object as well as for additional hardware parts present in the PET field-of-view, which potentially contribute to quantification biases in the PET images if not accounted for. This study aimed to investigate the influence of the different sources of attenuation on in ovo PET/MRI and assess the accuracy of MR-based AC for in ovo experiments.

Purpose: We aimed to explore the value of [Ga]Ga‑FAPI PET/CT for the evaluation of Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH) in comparison with [F]FDG PET/CT.
Methods: Thirty-two patients pathologically diagnosed with LCH were enrolled in this study. [Ga]Ga‑FAPI and [F]FDG PET/CT were performed within 1 week to identify disease extent and status.
