Dasheen mosaic virus (DsMV) is an important constraint to production of cocoyam (Xanthosoma spp.) in Nicaragua. Reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction was used to amplify the coat protein (CP) region from ten Nicaraguan DsMV isolates. These isolates showed high nucleotide identity to DsMV isolates from the USA, eastern Asia and Australasia. All Nicaraguan isolates except one shared a tandem repeat in the N-terminus of the CP. Phylogenetic analyses showed that the Nicaraguan isolates formed two distinct subgroups correlated with geographic origin. This can be explained by different origins of the cocoyam genotypes grown in these regions.

Viral diseases are becoming an important problem in Amorphophallus production due to the propagation of seed corms and their trade across regions. In this study, combined-High-Throughput Sequencing, RT-PCR, electron microscopy, and mechanical inoculation were used to analyze virus-like infected Amorphophallus samples in Yunnan province to investigate the distribution, molecular characterization, and diversity and evolution of Amorphophallus-infecting viruses including three isolates of dasheen mosaic virus and three orthotospoviruses: mulberry vein banding associated virus (MVBaV), tomato zonate spot virus (TZSV) and impatiens necrotic spot virus (INSV). The results showed that DsMV is the dominant virus infecting Amorphophallus, mixed infections with DsMV and MVBaV to Amorphophallus were quite common in Yunnan province, China.

Accumulating evidence suggests that the gut microbiome is linked to the occurrence and development of CRC, and these microorganisms are important for immune maturation. Alomae-bobone virus complex (ABVC) is a lethal but still understudied disease that is limited to the Solomon Islands and Papua New Guinea. The only virus clearly associated to ABVC is Colocasia bobone disease-associated virus (CBDaV).
