Problem: Transplantation of human ovarian cortex into host mice may permit various kinds of challenges in reproductive medicine. A novel immunodeficient mouse strain (NOD/SCID/gammacnull: NOG) has been developed as a host of transplantation of human tissue.

Method Of Study: Human ovarian cortex was transplanted into various sites of NOG mice and human follicular development was examined by immunohistochemistry.

Results: Transplantation of human ovarian tissue into NOG mice resulted in approximately similar tissue survival and follicle growth as did transplantation into non-obese diabetic-severe combined immunodeficient mice. The human Graafian follicle from NOG mouse expressed the same steroidogenic enzymes as observed in human Graafian follicles, which developed in the human body. The NOG mice's ovarian bursa was better placed for transplantation than the back skin or kidney capsule.

Conclusion: These results represent the successful generation and biological confirmation of the human Graafian follicles from the human ovarian cortex in the NOG mice.

Introduction: Adaptive ChemoTherapy for Ovarian cancer (ACTOv) is a phase II, multicentre, randomised controlled trial, evaluating an adaptive therapy (AT) regimen with carboplatin in women with relapsed, platinum-sensitive high-grade serous or high-grade endometrioid cancer of the ovary, fallopian tube and peritoneum whose disease has progressed at least 6 months after day 1 of the last cycle of platinum-based chemotherapy. AT is a novel, evolutionarily informed approach to cancer treatment, which aims to exploit intratumoral competition between drug-sensitive and drug-resistant tumour subpopulations by modulating drug dose according to a patient's own response to the last round of treatment. ACTOv is the first clinical trial of AT in this disease setting.

Introduction: A variety of hypoglycaemic drugs are used to treat polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), but their efficacy remains insufficient. Glucokinase activators (GKAs) are a unique class of hypoglycaemic medications with emerging potential, notably in significantly reducing insulin resistance (IR). Nevertheless, the efficacy of GKAs in treating PCOS, particularly in the absence or presence of IR, remains uncertain.

Background: Granulosa cell proliferation and survival are essential for normal ovarian function and follicular development. Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) have emerged as important regulators of cell proliferation and differentiation. Nuclear paraspeckle assembly transcript 1 (NEAT1) has been implicated in various cellular processes, but its role in granulosa cell function remains unclear.

Specific plasma metabolite profile in intestinal Behçet's syndrome.

Orphanet J Rare Dis

January 2025

Department of Rheumatology and Immunology, The First Affiliated Hospital, Fujian Medical University, Fuzhou, 350005, Fujian, China.

Background: Intestinal Behçet's syndrome (IBS) has high morbidity and mortality rates with serious complications. However, there are few specific biomarkers for IBS. The purposes of this study were to investigate the distinctive metabolic changes in plasma samples between IBS patients and healthy people, active IBS and inactive IBS patients, and to identify candidate metabolic biomarkers which would be useful for diagnosing and predicting IBS.
