Chromofluorescent probe 2 has been developed for selective and ratiometric estimation of F(-) (CH(3)CN) ions. The presence of a lipophilic dodecyl appendage at imidazolium nitrogen in 3 successfully allows the selective determination of AcO(-) ions in protic (CHCl(3)-MeOH, 1:1) solvent.

In this study we applied the dual-responsive chromo-fluorescent Cu chelate 1C for the recognition of miRNA-146a through a pyrophosphate (PPi) sensing strategy in a rolling circle amplification (RCA) process. This approach for the recognition of miRNA-146a was highly robust, selective, and sensitive down to the attomolar (fluorogenic) and sub-micromolar (chromogenic) ranges under modified biochemical conditions at elevated temperature. Probe 1 selectively recognized Cu and PPi ions in a sequential manner, as evidenced by colorless→pink→colorless transitions; the fluorescence emissions centered at 480 nm underwent a corresponding on-off-on sequence in the bluish-green region.

A series of acridinium salt-based probes capable of detecting fluoride and acetate anions via a nucleophilic attack at the C9 position of the acridinium moiety is reported. The formation of corresponding acridane displays drastic changes, in both UV-vis absorption and fluorescence emission. The sensing mechanism is a reversible process upon treating either tetrafluoroborate salt or an acid.
