Article Abstract

Objective: To investigate the influence of avian influenza virus (AIV) NS1 protein on the expression of interferon-inducible protein 10 (IP-10).

Methods: NSI gene from virus A/Anhui/1/2005 (H5N1), NS1 gene inserted with 80-84 amino acids from virus A/Anhui/1/2005 (H5N1) and NS1 gene from virus A/Puerto Rico/8/1934 (H1N1) were cloned into the eukaryotic expression vector pEGFP-N1, and transfected into BEAS-2B cells, IP-10 expression level in transfected cells was detected by flow cytometry.

Results: Compared with the control group pEGFP-N1, expression of these three different NS1 genes can down-regulate the expression of IP-10 in BEAS-2B cells, but there is no significant difference as to the lower level among them.

Conclusion: NS1 protein of A/Anhui/1/2005 (H5N1) can down-regulate the expression level of IP-10, but this may not clarify its relationship with the virulence of AIV.

The influenza A virus nuclear export protein (NEP) is a multifunctional protein that is essential for the viral life cycle and has very high sequence conservation. However, since the open reading frame of NEP largely overlaps with that of another influenza viral protein, non-structural protein 1, it is difficult to infer the functional constraints of NEP based on sequence conservation analysis. In addition, the N-terminal of NEP is structurally disordered, which further complicates the understanding of its function.

Introduction: Dengue viruses cause either symptomatic infections or asymptomatic seroconversion. Symptomatic dengue has a wide clinical spectrum ranging from self-limiting infection to severe manifestations, mostly characterized by plasma leakage with or without hemorrhage. World Health Organization classification in 2009 classified dengue into dengue without warning signs, dengue with warning signs, and severe dengue.

Cyclic peptides are often used as scaffolds for the multivalent presentation of drug molecules due to their structural stability and constrained conformation. We identified a cyclic deca-peptide incorporating lipoamino acids for delivering T helper and B cell epitopes against group A Streptococcus (GAS), eliciting robust humoral immune responses. In this study, we assessed the function-immunogenicity relationship of the multi-component vaccine candidate (referred to as VC-13) to elucidate a mechanism of action.

Mink enteritis virus (MEV) is an important pathogen causing mink viral enteritis. The mechanisms of cell cycle arrest induced by MEV infection and the roles of autophagy in MEV replication remain unclear. In this study, the roles of MEV NS1 protein in inducing cell cycle arrest were investigated, using the in vitro CRFK cell models.

Electronic address:

The influenza A virus evades the host innate immune response to establish infection by inhibiting RIG-I activation through its nonstructural protein 1 (NS1). Here, we reported that receptor-transporting protein 4 (RTP4), an interferon-stimulated gene (ISG), targets NS1 to inhibit influenza A virus infection. Depletion of RTP4 significantly increased influenza A virus multiplication, while NS1-deficient viruses were unaffected.
