The morphology and structure of erythrocyte cytoskeleton and local mechanical characteristics in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and donors were studied by atomic force microscopy. Poikilocytosis and anisocytosis, spatial reorganization of the cytoskeleton (loosening and condensation of the actin-spectrin network), and modification of local mechanical properties of erythrocytes were characteristic of diabetics. These results indicate significant heterogeneity of erythrocyte population in the patients, most likely due to the presence of erythrocytes of different age groups, which can promote the development of diabetes complications (angiopathy).

Various glassy hydrogels are developed by forming dense physical associations within the matrices, which exhibit forced elastic deformation and possess high stiffness, strength, and toughness. Here, the viscoplastic behaviors of the glassy hydrogel of poly(methacrylamide--methacrylic acid) are investigated by stress relaxation and creep measurements. We found that the characteristic time of stress relaxation of the glassy gel is much smaller than that of amorphous polymers.

Influenza is a highly contagious respiratory illness that imposes a significant global burden. Antiviral neuraminidase inhibitors (NAIs) such as oseltamivir (OC) have been proven essential, but the emergence of resistant viral strains necessitates the development of novel therapies. This study explored the potential of natural products as alternative NAIs.

In recent years, rising environmental concerns and the detrimental impact of emissions from the growing number of locomotives have prompted scientists to investigate alternative fuels derived from renewable lipids, such as microemulsion-based hybrid biofuels (MHBFs). Petro crops and lignocellulosic biomass are the common agricultural and forest feedstocks for biofuel production. Biofuel can be characterized in terms of its volatility range, physicochemical properties, composition, combustion, and emission characteristics.

Due to its availability and biocompatibility, the human amniotic membrane (hAM) is being investigated by a large number of researchers with the goal of gaining a better understanding of the materials' mechanical behavior and structural integrity and optimizing them for various Tissue Engineering applications. In this research, biopolymers sodium alginate (SA) and silk fibroin (SF) were electrospun onto a decellularized hAM, resulting in two types of hybrid scaffolds: hAM/SF and hAM/SF/SA. The mechanical characteristics of these nanofibers were then analyzed to guide scaffold optimization for applications using these materials.
