Gelatinase-responsive core-shell nanofiber membranes for anti-adhesion applications.

Int J Biol Macromol

January 2025

MOE Key Laboratory of Advanced Textile Materials & Manufacturing Technology, Zhejiang Sci-Tech University, Hangzhou 310018, China. Electronic address:

Dressings are prone to adhering to new tissues, leading to secondary harm to the wound during dressing replacement. To address this issue, many strategies have been proposed to endow dressings with anti-adhesive functions. However, the introduction of exogenous agents or stimuli is always needed, and difficulty in achieving adaptive removal is also present.

Femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery (FLACS) is a useful technology for anterior segment surgery that creates cleavage planes via photodisruption of ocular tissue. Compared to conventional cataract surgery, FLACS has been thought to potentially improve surgical precision, accuracy, and reproducibility. Its introduction into cataract surgery has enabled the development of new techniques and has been purported to be potentially beneficial in improving surgical safety and providing quicker visual rehabilitation.

The Role of Vimentin Peptide Citrullination in the Structure and Dynamics of HLA-DRB1 Rheumatoid Arthritis Risk-Associated Alleles.

Int J Mol Sci

December 2024

Department of Medicine, Division of Clinical Immunology, Ribeirão Preto Medical School, University of São Paulo, Ribeirão Preto 14049-900, SP, Brazil.

Citrullination, a post-translational modification (PTM), plays a critical role in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) by triggering immune responses to citrullinated self-antigens. Some HLA-DRB1 genes encode molecules with the shared epitope (QKRAA/QRRAA) sequence in the peptide-binding groove which preferentially presents citrulline-modified peptides, like vimentin, that intensifies the immune response in RA. In this study, we used computational approaches to evaluate intermolecular interactions between vimentin peptide-ligands (with/without PTM) and HLA-DRB1 alleles associated with a significantly increased risk for RA development.

Detailed Analysis of the Debris-Fretting Damage Areas on Coated Fuel Cladding.

Materials (Basel)

January 2025

Centrum Výzkumu Řež s.r.o., Hlavní 130, 250 68 Husinec-Řež, Czech Republic.

Fuel failure caused by fretting damage to cladding remains a relevant issue despite decades of research and development aimed at enhancing the physical parameters of fuel. This paper presents the results of experiments conducted at the Research Centre Řež on Zr-1%Nb alloy tube specimens covered with protective coatings made of chromium (Cr) and nitrogen (N) compounds. The experiments involved debris-fretting tests under dry conditions at room temperature as well as microscopic measurements of groove depths.

The grooved carpet shell clam (), widely found along Morocco's coasts and estuaries, is a key economic resource due to its high market value. However, clam production has declined over recent decades, largely due to the overexploitation of natural beds, and recruitment failures, leading to a limited wild spat availability. This study examined how the broodstock collection season (winter vs.
