Article Synopsis
  • Uremic leontiasis ossia (ULO) is a rare condition linked to renal osteodystrophy in patients with end-stage chronic kidney disease (CKD) and secondary hyperparathyroidism (SHPTH), causing bone deformities that can lead to a 'leonine' facial appearance.
  • The case study focuses on a 39-year-old female patient undergoing treatment, who exhibited significant symptoms and had elevated parathyroid hormone (PTH) levels, confirmed by CT scans.
  • Treatment involves a multidisciplinary approach including surgery and management of SHPTH to correct anatomical issues and prevent further complications.

Objectives: Microvascular free tissue transfer (MVFTT) for head and neck reconstruction is infrequently performed in pediatric patients. There is a paucity of data on perioperative airway management in pediatric MVFTT, such as the need for tracheostomy, which can pose higher morbidity to young patients due to potential long-term effects on the softer, more pliable laryngotracheal cartilage. Our objective was to report airway outcomes on pediatric patients undergoing MVFTT after segmental mandibulectomy with or without tracheostomy.

Article Synopsis
  • Central giant cell granuloma (CGCG) is a rare, benign bone lesion primarily found in the jawbones, but this case highlights its occurrence in the temporal bone of a 31-year-old female.
  • The patient underwent advanced imaging which revealed a mass with significant involvement of nearby structures, leading to preoperative embolization to minimize blood supply before surgical intervention.
  • Post-surgery, a histopathological analysis confirmed the diagnosis of CGCG, and the patient had an uncomplicated recovery, highlighting a successful management approach that preserved critical ear structures.
