Stem cells prevent long-term deterioration of renal function after renal artery revascularization in a renovascular hypertension model in rats.

Sci Rep

January 2025

Renal Division, Department of Medicine, Universidade Federal de São Paulo, Rua Pedro de Toledo, 781, São Paulo, SP, 04039-032, Brazil.

Partial stenosis of the renal artery causes renovascular hypertension (RVH) and is accompanied by chronic renal ischemia, resulting in irreversible kidney damage. Revascularization constitutes the most efficient therapy for normalizing blood pressure (BP) and has significant benefits for renal function; however, the tissue damage caused by chronic hypoxia is not fully reversed. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) have produced discrete results in minimizing RVH and renal tissue and functional improvements since the obstruction persists.

Linear psoriasis (LP) represents a rare variant of psoriasis. The clinical presentation includes erythematous plaques distributed along the Blaschko lines, reflecting the presence of embryological mosaicism. The clinical and histopathological features of this condition show many similarities with inflammatory linear verrucous epidermal nevus (ILVEN), which presents a challenge in differential diagnosis.

To develop a predictive model for improvement of ejection fraction 1 year after heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) following acute ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). This nested case-control study included STEMI patients diagnosed with HFrEF from a prospective multicenter multimodality imaging cohort between August 2014 and March 2021. Based on the improvement of left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) at baseline and 1-year follow-up, the patients were classified into the heart failure with improved ejection fraction (HFimpEF) group and the persistent HFrEF group.

Tertiary Lymphoid Structures as a Biomarker in Immunotherapy and Beyond: Advancing Towards Clinical Application.

Cancer Lett

January 2025

. Department of Thoracic Surgery, National Cancer Center/National Clinical Research Center for Cancer/Cancer Hospital, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and Peking Union Medical College, Beijing, 100021, China. Electronic address:

Tertiary lymphoid structures (TLSs) are ectopic immune cell clusters formed in nonlymphoid tissues affected by persistent inflammation, such as in cancer and prolonged infections. They have features of the structure and function of secondary lymphoid organs, featuring central CD20+ B cells, surrounded by CD3+ T cells, CD21+ follicular dendritic cells, and CD68+ macrophages, with a complex vascular system. TLS formation is governed by lymphotoxin-α1β2, TNF, and chemokines like CCL19, CCL21, and CXCL13, differing from secondary lymphoid organ development in developing later in life at sites of chronic inflammation.

Eosinophilic esophagitis is a chronic, antigen-driven, immune-mediated disease characterized by esophageal dysfunction and significant eosinophilic infiltration. Its rising incidence and prevalence over recent decades reflect both increased clinical awareness and the influence of environmental factors such as dietary patterns and allergen exposure. Among food allergens, cow's milk proteins are the most commonly implicated triggers, contributing to esophageal inflammation through complex immunological pathways involving both IgE-mediated and non-IgE-mediated mechanisms.
