It has been reported that the clinical presentation of forced normalization can vary from paranoid hallucinatory states to anxiety and conversion phenomena, and that it may occur in both generalised and focal epilepsies. On the basis of the evaluation of a video recording, we found that forced normalization was concomitant with catatonic psychosis in a patient with epilepsy, intellectual disability and pervasive developmental disorder. Catatonic psychosis accompanying forced normalization has not been previously reported. As the psychotic symptoms and quality of life worsen seizure control improves, we believe it may be better for the patient to tolerate some seizures, thus preserving their capacity to interact socially.

Background/aim: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is often complicated by sarcopenia, a condition of reduced muscle mass and function that adversely affects quality of life, lung function, and exacerbation rates. Ultrasonography could be an effective tool for detecting sarcopenia, notably by assessing diaphragmatic function, which may indicate muscle health in COPD patients. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of diaphragmatic ultrasound in detecting sarcopenia among COPD patients.

The research involved 3,318 older adults from the Hunter Community Study Cohort who had a BMI of 18.

Background/objectives: Recent studies indicate that sleep and sleep disorders differ between men and women, but corresponding data in people with chronic lung diseases are lacking. This study aims to answer the question of what the sex-specific differences in sleep profiles and responses to elexacaftor/tezacaftor/ivacaftor (ETI) therapy in people with cystic fibrosis (pwCF) are.
Methods: Adult pwCF and a matched control group (adults with suspected sleep-disordered breathing undergoing in-laboratory polysomnography (PSG)) were included.
