Patients with nasal turbinate dysfunction most often are seen by the physician with such symptoms as watery nasal secretions, nasal obstruction, congestion, facial pressure, or pain. There will often have been multiple attempts to manage the problem medically and symptomatically with antihistamines, decongestants, antibiotics, nasal cromolyn, and topical or systemic steroid therapy. Some patients will have undergone numerous attempts at surgical therapy, most often with cryosurgery or cauterization. The cause of the symptoms of turbinate dysfunction for most of these patients is either vasomotor rhinitis, allergic rhinitis, or polypoid hypertrophic turbinates. A visible-wavelength laser with a wavelength of 532 nm, the potassium-titanyl phosphate laser has been used with nasal endoscopes to perform laser photocoagulation of the nasal turbinates. A description of the technique and early results have been previously reported. This article reports good long-term results with the technique.

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) has been injected into the olfactory cleft to treat olfactory dysfunction related to coronavirus disease 2019. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the effect of PRP combined with hyaluronic acid (HA) nasal injection in the treatment of traumatic olfactory dysfunction. Patients who had lost olfactory function after experiencing head trauma and were willing to receive PRP and HA nasal injections for treatment were enrolled.

Objective: Nasal airway surgery is often applied when treatment fails to relieve nasal obstruction. However, surgery that improves airflow does not always alleviate the symptoms of nasal obstruction. Introduction: Computational fluid dynamic (CFD) modeling has previously indicated that distorted nasal airflow patterns may contribute to empty nose syndrome (ENS); however, no data show that aggressive turbinate surgery always leads to ENS. We aim to use virtual surgery planning (VSP) to investigate how a total inferior turbinectomy affects airflow parameters compared with ENS patients.

Background: Studies have found that in healthy individuals without nasal disease, changes in posture cause an increase in nasal resistance, especially in the prone posture.
