Purpose: Our study aimed to assess the prevalence and pattern of late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) as an in vivo correlate of myocardial fibrosis in cardiac asymptomatic patients with systemic sclerosis (SSc).

Materials And Methods: Cardiac magnetic resonance imaging was successfully performed in 34 patients (30 female, 4 male, mean age of 54 +/- 14 years) with proven SSc and in controls with matching age, sex and cardiovascular risk factors. All examinations were performed on a 1.5 T MR system (Avanto, Siemens, Germany). 2D inversion recovery spoiled gradient echo images (TR 8.0 msec, TE 4.0 msec, TI 180 - 240 msec, FA 20 degrees, slice thickness 8 mm, in-plane resolution 1.2 x 1.2 mm (2)) were acquired 10 to 15 min after injection of 0.2 mmol Gd-DTPA per kg body weight to detect myocardial LGE.

Results: Poorly defined, patchy as well as well-defined focal areas of LGE were detected predominantly in the mid-myocardial layer of the basal left ventricular segments in 5 of 34 (15 %) SSc patients. A focal area of LGE was observed within the apical septum in one control (3 %, p > 0.05). LGE was observed in a total of 15 segments of the SSc patients and in 1 segment of the controls (p < 0.005).

Conclusion: Our results revealed a significantly higher number of LGE positive segments in patients with SSc compared to matched controls, and demonstrate the ability of contrast-enhanced MRI to detect myocardial fibrosis, the hallmark of scleroderma heart disease, in-vivo.

Pathological myocardial hypertrophy can induce heart failure with high mortality, it is necessary to explore its pathogenesis. Tripartite motif-containing 26 (TRIM26) belongs to the multidomain E3 ubiquitin ligase family. We observed increased expression of TRIM26 in the myocardium of C57BL/6 mice subjected to transverse aortic constriction (TAC) surgery and neonatal rat cardiomyocytes (NRCMs) treated with phenylephrine (PE).

Aims: The aim of this study was to develop an ultra-short echo time 3D magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) method for imaging subacute myocardial infarction (MI) quantitatively and in an accelerated way. Here, we present novel 3D T- and T -weighted Multi-Band SWeep Imaging with Fourier Transform and Compressed Sensing (MB-SWIFT-CS) imaging of subacute MI in mice hearts .

Methods And Results: Relaxation time-weighted and under-sampled 3D MB-SWIFT-CS MRI were tested with manganese chloride (MnCl) phantom and mice MI model.

Objective: To explore the molecular mechanism of Shenmai Injection (SMI) against doxorubicin (DOX) induced cardiomyocyte apoptosis.

Methods: A total of 40 specific pathogen-free (SPF) male Sprague Dawley (SD) male rats were divided into 5 groups based on the random number table, including the control group, the model group, miR-30a agomir group, SMI low-dose (SMI-L) group, and SMI high-dose (SMI-H) group, with 8 rats in each group. Except for the control group, the rats were injected weekly with DOX (2 mg/kg) in the tail vein for 4 weeks to induce myocardial injury, and were given different regimens of continuous intervention for 2 weeks.

Heart remodelling affects ECG in rat DOCA/salt model.

Physiol Res

Department of Physiology, Faculty of Medicine, Masaryk University, Brno, Czech Republic.

Myocardial remodelling involves structural and functional changes in the heart, potentially leading to heart failure. The deoxycorticosterone acetate (DOCA)/salt model is a widely used experimental approach to study hypertension-induced cardiac remodelling. It allows to investigate the mechanisms underlying myocardial fibrosis and hypertrophy, which are key contributors to impaired cardiac function.

Purpose: This study aimed to assess the hemodynamic changes in the vena cava and predict the likelihood of Cardiac Remodeling (CR) and Myocardial Fibrosis (MF) in athletes utilizing four-dimensional (4D) parameters.

Materials And Methods: A total of 108 athletes and 29 healthy sedentary controls were prospectively recruited and underwent Cardiac Magnetic Resonance (CMR) scanning. The 4D flow parameters, including both general and advanced parameters of four planes for the Superior Vena Cava (SVC) and Inferior Vena Cava (IVC) (sheets 1-4), were measured and compared between the different groups.
