Depth-of-field blur effects are well-known depth cues in human vision. Computer graphics pipelines added DOF effects early to enhance imagery realism, but real-time VR applications haven't yet introduced visual blur effects. The authors describe new techniques to improve blur rendering and report experimental results from a prototype video game implementation.

Accurate polyp segmentation is crucial for early diagnosis and treatment of colorectal cancer. This is a challenging task for three main reasons: (i) the problem of model overfitting and weak generalization due to the multi-center distribution of data; (ii) the problem of interclass ambiguity caused by motion blur and overexposure to endoscopic light; and (iii) the problem of intraclass inconsistency caused by the variety of morphologies and sizes of the same type of polyps. To address these challenges, we propose a new high-precision polyp segmentation framework, MEFA-Net, which consists of three modules, including the plug-and-play Mask Enhancement Module (MEG), Separable Path Attention Enhancement Module (SPAE), and Dynamic Global Attention Pool Module (DGAP).

Changes in contrast and blur affect speed perception, raising the question of whether natural changes in the eye (e.g., cataract) that induce light scatter may affect motion perception.

The use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to detect defects such as concrete cracks in civil and transport infrastructure has the potential to make inspections less expensive, quicker, safer and more objective by reducing the need for on-site human labour. One deployment scenario involves using a drone to carry an embedded device and camera, with the device making localised predictions at the edge about the existence of defects using a trained convolutional neural network (CNN) for image classification. In this paper, we trained six CNNs, namely Resnet18, Resnet50, GoogLeNet, MobileNetV2, MobileNetV3-Small and MobileNetV3-Large, using transfer learning technology to classify images of concrete structures as containing a crack or not.

The beauty or ugliness of a face is affected by factors such as the resolution of the face image presented on the screen and its exposure duration. The present study investigated the effects of image resolution and exposure duration on the beauty and ugliness evaluations of face images processed with down-sampling and Gaussian blurring. We prepared two types of face images with these blur processing treatments and conducted two experiments to evaluate beauty and ugliness perceptions at various exposure durations.

Prcis: Trabeculectomy increases tissue blood flow superior and temporal in the optic nerve head. Improvement of tissue blood flow superior and temporal in the optic nerve could be an indicator of the effectiveness of glaucoma treatment.
Purpose: To investigate changes in tissue blood flow at the optic nerve head before and after trabeculectomy.
