Published: June 2008

Objective: To study the chemical constituents of leaves of Paulownia fortunei (Seem.) Hemsl.

Methods: The constituents were isolated by column chromatography and their structures were elucidated through spectroscopic analysis.

Results: The compounds were identified as mimulone (I), apigenin (II), luteolin (III), 2alpha, 3beta, 19beta-trihydroxyurs-28-O-beta-D-galactonopyranos ylester (anserinoside, IV), 3alpha-hydroxyl-ursolicacid (V), ursolicacid (VI), daucosterol (VII), beta-sitosterol (VIII).

Conclusion: The compounds I - V are obtained from leaves of Paulownia fortunei (Seem.) Hemsl for the first time.

This study explored the quantitative inversion of the chlorophyll content in seedling leaves under drought stress and analyzed the factors influencing the chlorophyll content from multiple perspectives to obtain the optimal model. seedlings were selected as the experimental materials for the potted water control experiments. Four drought stress treatments were set up to obtain four types of seedlings: one pair of top leaves (T1), two pairs of leaves (T2), three pairs of leaves (T3), and four pairs of leaves (T4).

There is an increasing focus on genetically altering Paulownia trees to enhance their resistance against fungal infections, given their rapid growth and quality wood production. The aim of this research was to establish a technique for incorporating two antimicrobial thionin genes, namely thionin-60 (thio-60) and thionin-63 (thio-63), into Paulownia tomentosa and Paulownia hybrid 9501 through the utilization of chitosan nanoparticles. The outcomes revealed the successful gene transfer into Paulownia trees utilizing chitosan nanoparticles.

Article Synopsis
  • * The study examined 14 commonly used ornamental woody species in Mediterranean urban areas to measure their stomatal conductance, biogenic volatile organic compounds (bVOCs) emissions, and Leaf Mass per Area (LMA).
  • * Results showed that while species like Catalpa bignonioides and Gleditsia triacanthos effectively remove ozone, others like Rhamnus alaternus and Cornus mas can contribute negatively to air quality due to high bVOC emissions.

The aim of the study was to investigate changes in proline metabolism in seedlings of tree species during drought stress. One month old seedlings were exposed to moisture conditions at various levels (irrigation at 100, 75, 50 and 25% of field capacity), and then the material (leaves and roots) was collected three times at 10-day intervals. The activity of enzymes involved in proline metabolism was closely related to drought severity; however, proline content was not directly impacted.
