Pre-symptomatic scintigraphic and genetic cascade screening in cardiac transthyretin amyloidosis.

Jagiellonian University Medical College, Department of Cardiac and Vascular Diseases, Institute of Cardiology, St. John Paul II Hospital, Pradnicka 80, 31-202, Krakow, Poland.

Purpose: While early diagnosis is crucial, as new treatments can significantly slow the progression of the disease, there is growing evidence on the application of novel imaging techniques for detecting transthyretin amyloidosis (ATTR) in pre-symptomatic stages. This study aimed to evaluate the utility of pre-symptomatic scintigraphic imaging cascade screening for early detection of ATTR.

Methods: During the period from 2020 to 2024, we conducted a prospective study that enrolled 100 consecutive adults.

Background: The alpha-emitting radionuclide therapy [Ra]RaCl (Radium-223) improves overall survival (OS) and time to symptomatic skeletal event (SSE) in patients with metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC). Evidence suggests that the effect of Radium-223 is partly exerted through an impact on the surrounding bone matrix. We hypothesized that bone metabolism markers (BMM) could provide predictive information regarding response to Radium-223.

Thoracoabdominal duplication cysts are a congenital malformation of the posterior primitive foregut with synchronous thoracic and abdominal duplication cysts being found in up to 15% of cases. The presentation of duplication cysts depends on their location, size, and other factors, like the presence of ectopic functioning gastric mucosa, which is reported in 20%-30% of duplication cysts. 99mTc-pertechnetate scintigraphy along with SPECT/CT helps in the preoperative localization of ectopic functioning gastric mucosa in these duplication cysts.

Objectives: There is currently no reference standard test for the detection of the extra-esophageal manifestations of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). The current suite of diagnostic tests principally assesses reflux events in the esophagus. A new scintigraphic technique has been developed and validated against reference standards.
