Objective: To compare the concentrations of cytokines belonging to Th17 axis (interleukin (IL)-17 and IL-23) and Th1 axis (IL-12 and interferon (IFN)-gamma) in obese and lean women, and to investigate their relationships with the proinflammatory adipokine leptin, proinflammatory cytokine macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF) and anthropometric and metabolic parameters of obesity.
Design: Cross-sectional study.
Subjects: Twenty-six obese women (age 20-52 years, body mass index (BMI): 30-48 kg/m(2)) and 20 healthy lean women (age 23-46 years, BMI: 18-25 kg/m(2)).
Measurements: Plasma levels of cytokines and leptin, BMI, waist circumference (WC) and insulin resistance index HOMA (homeostatic model assessment).
Results: Blood concentrations of IL-17, IL-23, MIF and leptin, but not IL-12 or IFN-gamma, were higher in obese compared with lean women (P=0.002, 0.046, 0.006 and 0.002, respectively). There was a positive correlation between IL-17 and IL-23 (r(s)=0.530), which was at the border of statistical significance (P=0.065). Neither IL-17 nor IL-23 correlated with leptin or MIF, and there was no association between IL-17 and IL-23 levels with BMI, WC or HOMA index.
Conclusion: Interleukin-23/IL-17 axis is stimulated in obese women independently of the increase in abdominal fat, insulin resistance, leptin and MIF levels.

Background: Psoriasis patients who are seropositive for hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) or hepatitis B core antibody (HBcAb) face an elevated risk of hepatitis B virus reactivation (HBVr) when treated with cytokine inhibitors. This study aims to elucidate the risk in this population.
Methods: A retrospective chart review was conducted to assess the risk of HBVr in 73 psoriasis patients treated with cytokine inhibitors from 2013 to 2023.

Background: Inflammatory dermatological conditions, including psoriasis, lichen planus, eczema, and alopecia areata, are frequently accompanied by nail findings and can have a significant impact on quality of life. Biologic and small-molecule medications have been approved over the past several decades in treating patients with these inflammatory nail disorders. They may be used in conjunction with longstanding mainstays of treatment (topical and intralesional corticosteroids, topical vitamin D3 analogs).

The aim of this study was to determine serum I-309 levels in primary Sjögren's syndrome (pSS) patients, as well as the association with disease phenotype, systemic activity, and T helper cell-related cytokines. A total of 58 pSS patients and 30 healthy controls (HC) were enrolled in this study. The concentrations of serum I-309, interleukin-4 (IL-4), IL-6, IL-9, IL-13, IL-17, IL-22, IL-23, tumor-necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), interferon-γ (IFN-γ), IFN-α, and IFN-β were measured with multiplex immunoassay.

Introduction: Patients with psoriasis (PsO) and permanent spinal cord injuries (SCI) resulting in paraplegia and tetraplegia may experience a higher rate of infections compared to patients with PsO without SCI. It can result in further challenges for therapeutic management with immunosuppressants (biological and non-biological treatments). Thus, we aimed to evaluate the rate of infections in patients with PsO and SCI treated with systemic immunosuppressants.

Psoriasis is a chronic and incurable inflammatory skin disease usually requiring long-term disease management. Natural phytochemical resveratrol (RES) has been known for high efficiency and low toxicity, exhibiting good anti-psoriasis potential. However, its biological activity is limited by poor solubility, chemical instability, and insufficient skin retention.
