An automatic flow-injection (FI) system including on-line separation by microdistillation and spectrophotometric detection has been developed for the determination of trace amounts of fluoride. This ion was separated from sample matrix by distillation in the presence of sulfuric and phosphoric acids, and was subsequently determined with spectrophotometry based on the mixed-ligand complex of lanthanum(III)-fluoride-alizarin complexone. The proposed FI system has high sampling frequency (20 samplesh(-1)), small sample size (600 microl) and the dynamic range of 0.05-15 mgl(-1) with relative standard deviations of below 1.2%. Interfering ions such as aluminum(III) and iron(III) was effectively eliminated. The method was successfully applied to the determination of fluoride in industrial drainage after water treatment.

Metabolic profiling of human milk (HM) is indispensable for elucidating mother-milk-infant relationships. We evaluated the Biocrates MxP Quant 500 assay for HM-targeted metabolomics (106 small molecules, 524 lipids) and analyzed in a feasibility test HM from apparently healthy Brazilian mothers (A: 2-8, B: 28-50, C: 88-119 days postpartum, n = 25). Of the 630 possible signatures detectable with this assay, 506 were above the limits of detection in an HM-pool (10 µL) used for assay evaluation, 12 of them above the upper limit of quantitation.

Sensitive and precise assay of prednisolone, a steroid hormone, has received great attention due to its significant role in the treatment of a series of diseases. In this study, we have developed a simple, quick, and accurate technique in this part to measure prednisolone. Cobalt 5,10,15,20-tetra(4-pyridyl)-21H,23H-porphine (CoTPyP) as a mimic peroxidase catalyzes the chemiluminescence (CL) reaction of lucigenin for the first time.

Rapid identification of asparagine (Asn) deamidation and isoaspartate (Asp) in proteins remains a challenging analytical task during the development of biological therapeutics. For this study, 46 therapeutically relevant peptides corresponding to 13 peptide families (13 unmodified peptides and 33 modified peptides) were obtained; modified peptides included Asn deamidation and isoAsp. The peptide families were characterized by three methods: reversed-phase ultrahigh performance liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (RP-UHPLC-MS); flow injection analysis high-resolution ion mobility-mass spectrometry (FIA-HRIM-MS); and shortened gradient RP-UHPLC-HRIM-MS.

Industrialization has led to environmental pollution with various hazardous chemicals including pollution with metals. In this regard, the development of highly efficient analytical methods for their determination has received considerable attention to ensure public safety. Currently, scientists are paying more and more attention to the automation of analytical methods, since it permits fast, accurate, and sensitive analysis with minimal exposure of analysts to hazardous substances.

Detecting strain-specific barcodes with mass spectrometry can facilitate the screening of genetically engineered bacterial libraries. Here, we introduce intact protein barcoding, a method to measure protein-based library barcodes and metabolites using flow injection mass spectrometry (FI-MS). Protein barcodes are based on ubiquitin with N-terminal tags of six amino acids.
