Flow injection spectrofluorimetry with in-line Winklers procedure was developed for the dissolved oxygen (DO) determination. 2-Thionaphthol reacted with iodine produced by Winkler's method to form fluorescence inactive disulfide compound. To automate the process completely, a 5-channel flow system with a newly designed 16-way valve was assembled. The system consisted of a dispersion coil (DC), a precipitate formation coil (PFC), a precipitate dissolving coil (PDC), and extraction coil (EC). A calibration can be constructed by using a standard iodine solution for dissolved oxygen. The calibration graph was linear over the range 1.2x10(-4) approximately 6.0x10(-4)moll(-1) iodine (1.96 approximately 9.80mgOl(-1))). The relative standard deviation (n=6) was below 0.3% for the 4x10(-4)moll(-1) iodine (6.27mgOl(-1)) determination. The sample throughput was 12/h.

Cephalosporin C (CPC) is a critical raw material for cephalosporin antibiotics produced by Acremonium chrysogenum. During fermentation, the oxygen supply is a crucial factor limiting the efficient biosynthesis of CPC. This study demonstrated that the addition of exogenous surfactants significantly increased the dissolved oxygen (DO) level, extracellular catalase content, and final CPC titer.

Since elevated amounts of chlorine disinfectant were discharged into surface water, more attention should be paid to the reactions between dissolved organic matter (DOM) and chlorine under sunlight. However, disinfection byproducts (DBPs) formed from DOM by solar photolysis of chlorine, and changes of cytotoxicity during this process remain unclear. In this study, it was found that solar photolysis of chlorine significantly promoted the formation of aliphatic chlorinated DBPs and aromatic chlorinated DBPs (including chlorobenzoquinone) by 44.

Background: Consuming prebiotics demonstrated therapeutic potential against obesity, as illustrated by our previous study on xylooligosaccharide (XOS), revealing that XOS reduced adiposity, diminished systemic inflammation, and restored cognitive function in obese insulin-resistant rats through the gut-brain axis. Fresh bananas at various ripening stages are being transformed into snacks, indicating potential as prebiotic-based treats enriched with fructooligosaccharide and inulin. Despite those findings, there remains a notable gap in the literature concerning the impact of these prebiotic-based snacks on brain inflammation, reactive oxygen species (ROS) production, and cognitive function in high-fat diet (HFD)-induced obese rats.

Peatlands store one-third of the world's soil organic carbon. Globally increased fires altered peat soil organic matter chemistry, yet the redox property and molecular dynamics of peat-dissolved organic matter (PDOM) during fires remain poorly characterized, limiting our understanding of postfire biogeochemical processes. Clarifying these dynamic changes is essential for effective peatland fire management.

Superbugs in groundwater are posing severe health risks through waterborne pathways. An emerging approach for green disinfection lies at photocatalysis, which levers the locally generated superoxide radical (·O) for neutralization. However, the spin-forbidden feature of O hinders the photocatalytic generation of active ·O, and thus greatly limited the disinfection efficiency, especially for real groundwater with a low dissolved oxygen (DO) concentration.
