A PVC-based sensor for La(3+) ions based on N-[hexahydrocyclopentapyrol-2((1H)yl)amino]carbonyl]-4-methyl benzene sulfonamide (gliclazide) as a novel carrier was prepared. The electrode exhibits a Nernstian response for La(3+) over a wide concentration range (1.0x10(-1)-1.0x10(-6) M) with a slope of 20.1 mV per decade. The limit of detection is 8.0x10(-7) M. The sensor has a very short response time (<15 s) and a useful working pH range of 4.0-8.0. The proposed membrane sensor shows excellent discriminating ability towards La(3+) ions with regard to several alkali, alkaline earth, transition and heavy metal ions. The electrode was successfully applied for determination of La(3+) in binary mixtures.

Micellar liquid chromatography (MLC) has proven beneficial efficiency and ecological impact for routine quality control activities. In the proposed study, cyrene was investigated for the first time, together with other green additives, as a novel safe organic solvent in reversed-phase MLC. Quality-by-design (QbD) approach screened their effect on the separation performance.

Summary: Familial renal glucosuria (FRG) is a rare renal tubular disorder characterized by increased urinary glucose excretion despite normoglycemia. It is most commonly caused by pathogenic variants in the solute carrier family V member 2 (SLC5A2) gene. This gene encodes the sodium-glucose cotransporter 2, crucial for glucose reabsorption.

Growing clinical evidence shows that sulfonylurea therapy for patients with type 2 diabetic mellitus (T2DM) contributes to progressive worsening of their liver. The present study presents hepatotoxicity induced by gliclazide, a second-generation sulfonylurea, and alpha-lipoic acid (ALA) as a novel and promising drug for T2DM treatment. Normal human liver cells (HL-7702) were incubated with high-glucose DMEM in the presence or absence of gliclazide and ALA for 72 h, and cell viability and death were measured by flow cytometry.

A novel organic-inorganic gliclazide-loaded composite bead was developed by an ionic gelation process using acidified CaCl, chitosan and tetraethylorthosilicate (TEOS) as a crosslinker. The beads were manufactured by crosslinking an inorganic silicone elastomer (-OH terminated polydimethylsiloxane, PDMS) with TEOS at different ratios before grafting onto an organic backbone (Na-alginate) using a 3 factorial experimental design. Gliclazide's encapsulation efficiency (EE%) and drug release over 8 h (% DR 8 h) were set as dependent responses for the optimisation of a pharmaceutical formula (herein referred to as 'G op') by response surface methodology.
