Purpose: To examine the association of race, ethnicity, and other social determinants of health (SDH) on receipt of optic nerve (ON) evaluation in accordance with National Quality Forum (NQF) and the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) guideline-based metrics.
Methods: This was a retrospective cohort study consisting of 13,582 patients with POAG receiving care across 12 tertiary care health. The odds of receiving ≥1 ON evaluations to monitor for glaucoma progression over 45 months of follow-up was evaluated.
Background: Heart failure (HF) is known to reduce glomerular filtration rate (GFR), while chronic kidney disease (CKD) significantly increases the risk of left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) and HF. Although these connections have been explored in separate studies, comprehensive research examining the mutual links between CKD and LVH progression is lacking.
Methods: Our study investigates the longitudinal relationship between estimated GFR (eGFR) and left ventricular mass index (LVMI) in a cohort of 106 CKD patients across stages G1-5.

Crohn's disease is a chronic inflammatory bowel disease that can lead to fibrostenotic complications. These strictures result from an imbalance between inflammation and excessive healing, leading to an abnormal accumulation of extracellular matrix and a progressive thickening of the intestinal wall. To date, no specific treatment is available to prevent or reverse intestinal fibrosis.

Scope: The uremic toxin trimethylamine N-oxide (TMAO) accumulates in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) and is associated with its progression, cardiovascular disease, and other complications. The gut microbiota produces TMAO from substrates mainly found in red meat, eggs, and dairy. However, some saltwater fish also contain high levels of TMAO.
