Published: November 1982

A comprehensive review is given of how neutron-activation analysis for trace elements in biological matrices can be jeopardized by radiation damage, by the impurities present in the packing material or by nuclear interferences of major elements. Systematic errors during the counting process and the quantitative interpretation of the gamma-ray spectra should not be disregarded.

Determination of Westcott g-factors for the assay of non-1/v nuclides using k-NAA.

Appl Radiat Isot

March 2025

Reactor Design Group, IGCAR, Kalpakkam, 603102, India.

This study examines the impact of the Westcott g-factor on the concentration of elements like In, Ir, Re, Yb, Eu and Lu, measured using neutron capture reactions (n,γ), specifically focusing on those reactions, whose thermal neutron capture cross-sections (σ ) deviate from the conventional '1/v' behaviour. These measurements are quantified using k₀-based neutron activation analysis. The Westcott g-factor for the non-1/v nuclides was calculated using the characterized neutron temperature (T) at PFTS irradiation channel of KAMINI reactor.

In the Iron Age, the Neo-Assyrian empire (c. 900-600 BC) conquered territory across southwest Asia and established regional capitals along its borders to secure its gains. Governors at these centers oversaw resource extraction and craft production for shipment to the imperial heartland in modern-day northern Iraq.

Bedřich Smetana's illness associated with complete hearing loss has been linked to various diseases in a long-running discussion. Senile dementia, atherosclerosis, progressive paralysis in lues are mentioned, while the ototoxicity of mercury is neglected. Its high concentration in the composer's skeletal remains was demonstrated by the authors of this article immunohistochemically and especially by the neutron activation analysis (NAA) method 23 years ago.

This study investigates the quantities of Rare Earth Elements (REEs) and Potentially Toxic Elements (PTEs) in Dong Nai Province's surface soils. Atomic Absorption Spectrometry (AAS) and Instrumental Neutron Activation Analysis (INAA) were used to determine element concentrations. To validate the concentration results, established reference materials (NIST 2711 and IAEA Soil-7) were used.

Influence of Newborns' Sex on Minor and Trace Element Concentrations in Human Milk During Early Lactation.

Breastfeed Med

December 2024

Pediatrics Infectious Diseases Research Center, Institute of Immunology and Infectious Diseases, Iran University of Medical Sciences, Tehran, Iran.

This study aimed to investigate the influence of newborns' sex on the concentrations of minor and trace elements in the human milk of lactating mothers during early lactation. The elemental analysis focused on calcium (Ca), potassium (K), sodium (Na), and chlorine (Cl) as minor elements and iodine (I), aluminum (Al), bromine (Br), and rubidium (Rb) as trace elements. Breast milk samples were collected from 75 lactating mothers in Tehran, Iran, during the early feeding stage.
