A simple and selective extraction of molybdenum is described. Tungsten is masked with tartaric acid and molybdenum(VI) is reduced in 2M hydrochloric acid by boiling with hydrazine sulphate. Iron, copper and vanadium are then masked with ascorbic acid, thiourea and potassium hydrogen fluoride respectively. The molybdenum(V) is extracted as its xanthate complex into chloroform, from 1M hydrochloric acid that is 0.4M potassium ethyl xanthate. The complex is decomposed by excess of liquid bromine, and the molybdenum is stripped into alkaline hydrogen peroxide solution. The molybdenum is then determined by standard methods. Large amounts of Cu(II), Mn(II), Fe(III), Ti(IV), Zr, Ce(IV), V(V), Nb, Cr(VI), W(VI), U(VI), Re(VII) and Os(VIII) do not interfere. Several synthetic samples and ferromolybdenum have been rapidly and satisfactorily analysed by the method.

Acute kidney injury (AKI) has become a disease of global concern due to its high morbidity and mortality. This has highlighted the need for renoprotective agents. Astragaloside IV (AS-IV) is a saponin isolated from Astragalus membranaceus with good antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-tumor properties.

Acid fracturing fluids can effectively improve the microporous structure of coal, thereby enhancing the permeability of coal seam and the efficiency of gas drainage. To explore the effects of acid fracturing fluids on the pore structure modification of coal samples from different coal ranks, hydrochloric acid-based acid fracturing fluids were prepared and used to soak four types of medium to high-rank coal in an experiment. High-pressure mercury intrusion and liquid nitrogen adsorption techniques results demonstrated that the acid fracturing fluid can effectively alter the pore structure of coal.

2H-NMR as a Practical Tool for Following MOF Formation: A Case Study of UiO-66.

Developing the mechanism for MOF formation is crucial for the rapid development of new materials. This work demonstrates that Deuterium-NMR spectroscopy is the optimal inter-laboratory methodology for understanding the in-situ kinetics of metal-organic framework (MOF) formation. This method is facile, affordable, and allows for the isolation and monitoring of individual reagents by using one deuterated component while the remaining components are protonated.

UDP-glycosyltransferases (UGTs) are the largest glycosyltransferase family developed during the evolution of the plant kingdom. However, their physiological significance in abiotic stress adaptation in land plants is largely unknown. In this study, we identified a UGT gene from Arabidopsis thaliana, UGT86A1, that was significantly induced by salt and drought stresses.

The simulation of antral conditions for estimating drug apparent equilibrium solubility after a high-calorie, high-fat meal is challenging. In this study, (1) we measured the apparent equilibrium solubility of two model lipophilic drugs, ketoconazole and danazol, in antral aspirates collected at various time points after a minced high-calorie, high-fat meal and a glass of water 30 min after initiation of meal administration, and we designated one point estimate for ketoconazole and one point estimate for danazol; (2) we evaluated the usefulness of FeSSGF-V2 and FEDGAS pH = 3 in reproducing the two point estimates; (3) we evaluated potential compositions of FeSSGF-V3 that simulate the pH, the buffer capacity toward both less acidic and more acidic values, and the antral lipid and protein contents with easily accessible, commercially available products, and (4) we identified the most useful composition of FeSSGF-V3 for reproducing the two point estimates. For both model drugs, apparent solubility in FeSSGF-V2 and in FEDGAS pH 3 deviated substantially from the corresponding point estimate.
