Introduction: Brain arginine( 8)-vasopressin (AVP), through the V(1a)- and V(2)-receptors, is essential for the maintenance of mean arterial pressure (MAP). Central AVP interacts with the components of the renin-angiotensin system, which participate in MAP regulation. This study aimed to determine the effects of V(1a)-, V(2)- and V(1a)/V(2)-AVP selective antagonists and AT(1)- and AT(2)-angiotensin II (Ang II) selective antagonists on the MAP induced by AVP injected into the medial septal area (MSA) of the brain.
Materials And Methods: Male Holtzman rats with stainless steel cannulae implanted into the MSA were used in experiments. Direct MAP was recorded in conscious rats.
Results: AVP administration into the MSA caused a prompt and potent pressor response in a dose-dependent fashion. Pretreatment with the V(1a)- and V(2)-antagonists reduced, whereas prior injection of the V(1a)/V(2)-antagonist induced a decrease in the MAP that remained below the baseline. Both AT(1)- and AT(2)-antagonists elicited a decrease, while simultaneous injections of two antagonists were more effective in decreasing the MAP induced by AVP.
Conclusion: These results indicate there is a synergism between the V(1a)- and V(2)-AVP and AT(1)and AT(2)-Ang II receptors in the MSA in the regulation of MAP.

The lateral septum (LS) demonstrates activation in response to pup exposure in mothers, and its lesions eliminate maternal behaviors suggesting it is part of the maternal brain circuitry. This study shows that the density of pup-activated neurons in the ventral subdivision of the LS (LSv) is nearly equivalent to that in the medial preoptic area (MPOA), the major regulatory site of maternal behavior in rat dams. However, when somatosensory inputs including suckling were not allowed, pup-activation was markedly reduced in the LSv.

Purpose: To compare the nasolacrimal and nasal anatomical parameters in cases of acquired primary nasolacrimal duct obstruction and acute dacryocystitis.
Methods: The study included 62 eyes of 31 patients. The eyes were divided into three groups: Group A, comprising eyes presenting with acute dacryocystitis; Group B, comprising eyes with nasolacrimal duct obstruction but no previous episodes of dacryocystitis; and Group C, comprising eyes with an patent nasolacrimal duct.

While hypothalamic kisspeptin (KP) neurons play well-established roles in the estrogen-dependent regulation of reproduction, little is known about extrahypothalamic KP-producing (KP) neurons of the lateral septum. As established previously, expression in this region is low and regulated by estrogen receptor- and GABA receptor-dependent mechanisms. Our present experiments on knock-in mice revealed that transgene expression in the LS begins at P33-36 in females and P40-45 in males and is stimulated by estrogen receptor signaling.

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is characterized by anxiety, excessive fear, distress, and weakness as symptoms of a psychiatric disorder. However, the mechanism associated with its symptoms such as anxiety-like behaviors is not well understood. It is aimed to investigate the underlying mechanisms of the medial septum (MS)-medial habenula (MHb) neural circuit modulating the anxiety-like behaviors of PTSD mice through in vivo fiber photometry recording, optogenetics, behavioral testing by open-field and elevated plus maze, fluorescent gold retrograde tracer technology, and viral tracer technology.
