Aim Of The Study: Fissistigma oldhamii (Hemsl.) Merr, a traditional Chinese herb medicine, is used for treating rheumatoid arthritis in China. In our previous study, an effective compound, 7'-(3',4'-dihydroxyphenyl)-N-[(4-methoxyphenyl) ethyl] propenamide (Z23), from this herb has showed potent immunosuppressive effects both in vitro and in vivo. However, its anti-inflammatory effect and mechanism is still need to explore.

Materials And Methods: We examined the in vitro effects of Z23 on the production of nitric oxide (NO), prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) and cytokines by lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated RAW264.7 macrophages.

Results: Z23 significantly decreased the production of PGE2, NO, tumour necrosis factor alpha (TNFalpha) and IL6 production. Inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) and cyclooxygenase2 (COX2) gene expression were also significantly reduced.

Conclusions: These results demonstrated that Z23 exerted an anti-inflammatory effect through modulating the synthesis of several mediators and cytokines involved in the inflammatory process. This study provided evidence to understand the therapeutic effects of Fissistigma oldhamii (Hemsl.) Merr and indicated that Z23 has the potential for treatment of various inflammatory diseases where the overproduction of NO, PGE2 and inflammatory cytokines has been shown to play a role, e.g. rheumatoid arthritis.

Background: Myocardial Infarction still persists as the most prevalent cardiovascular disease and is a top cause of morbidity and mortality in doxorubicin treated cancer patients. This study evaluated the prophylactic effect of the ethanol root bark extract of Cleistopholis patens (ERBECP) against doxorubicin-induced myocardial infarction in wistar rats. Extraction, preliminary phytochemical analysis, acute toxicity study and body weight (b.

The actinide-actinide bonding in tri-actinide clusters [An₃Cl₆] (An=Ac-Pu, z=1-6) and [An₃Cl₆Cp₃] (z=-2-+3; Cp=(η-CH)) is studied using density functional theory. We find 3-centre bonding similar to the tri-thorium cluster [{Th(η⁸-C₈H₈)(μ₃-Cl)₂}₃{K(THF)₂}₂], as we previously reported (Nature 2021, 598, 72-75). The population of 3-centre molecular orbitals (3c-MOs) by zero, one or two electrons correlates with shortening of the An-An bond lengths, which also decrease with increasing actinide atomic number, consistent with the contraction of the actinide valence atomic orbitals.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to assess how consistently patients are positioned during upright treatment for head and neck cancers using image-guided adaptive proton therapy (IGAPT).
  • Ten patients underwent treatment with a gantry-less system, using various imaging techniques to monitor and adjust their positioning prior to and after irradiation.
  • Results showed that the gantry-less system provided reliable patient positioning, though a small vertical shift was noted that requires further investigation in upcoming studies focusing on thoracic treatments.

Article Synopsis
  • Central line-associated bloodstream infections (CLABSI) have serious health impacts, and this study investigates their trends in incidence and pathogens over several years in a Swiss hospital.
  • Researchers analyzed data from 2016 to 2023, finding a stable CLABSI incidence density but an increase in the use of central lines.
  • The study highlighted a shift in the types of microorganisms causing CLABSI, with a rise in Enterococcus species and yeast, while coagulase-negative staphylococci decreased in prevalence.

The discovery of readily available and easily modifiable new models is a crucial and practical solution for agrochemical innovation. Antifungal function-oriented fusion of triazole with the prevalidated lead ()- affords a novel framework with a broad and enhanced antifungal spectrum. Characterized by the easy accessibility and adjustability of [1,2,4]triazolo[4,3-]pyridine, modular fine-tuning provided a set of unprecedented leads (e.
