White piedra is a superficial mycosis caused by Trichosporon spp. that affects the hair shaft of any part of the body. It is presented an outbreak of scalp white piedra seen in 5.8% of the children frequenting a day care in Northeastern of São Paulo State, Brazil. Mycological exam and culture identified T. cutaneum in all five cases, and scanning electron microscopy of nodules around hair shaft infected by Trichosporon spp. is demonstrated comparing them with those of black piedra and with nits of Pediculous capitis.

Objectives: Interest in Del Nido solution is increasing in adult cardiac surgery. This study compared Del Nido with Buckberg cardioplegia in patients undergoing isolated aortic valve replacement.
Methods: A prospective, two-center, randomized trial was conducted from July 2019 to August 2023, with adult patients undergoing first-time isolated aortic valve replacement, and were randomized to receive Buckberg (n = 159) or Del Nido (n = 152) solution.

This study aimed to assess the impact of SARS-CoV-2 therapies on the risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE) and other cardiovascular events. A retrospective, multicenter, observational study included hospitalized patients in Spain due to acute SARS-CoV-2 infection from March 2020 to March 2022. A total of 184,324 hospitalized COVID-19 patients were included, with a mean age of 67.

Interim influenza vaccine effectiveness (VE) was calculated among patients with acute respiratory illness-associated outpatient visits and hospitalizations from four VE networks during the 2024-25 influenza season (October 2024-February 2025). Among children and adolescents aged <18 years, VE against any influenza was 32%, 59%, and 60% in the outpatient setting in three networks, and against influenza-associated hospitalization was 63% and 78% in two networks.

The molecular mechanisms underlying acute coronary syndrome (ACS) have been extensively investigated, with a particular focus on the role of circulating microvesicles (MVs) as carriers of regulatory elements that influence hemodynamic changes and coronary flow. Endothelial and platelet dysfunction during ACS alters MV composition, impacting clinical outcomes. This study explores the levels of miR-126-5p and miR-223-3p in circulating MVs and their association with the Thrombolysis in Myocardial Infarction (TIMI) coronary flow classification scale, proposing their potential as biomarkers.

Unlabelled: The scale of plastic pollution boggles the mind. Nearly 400 megatons of virgin plastics are produced annually, with an environmental release rate of 80%, and plastic waste, including microplastics and nanoplastics, is associated with a plethora of problems. The naturally evolved abilities of plastic-degrading microbes offer a starting point for generating sustainable and eco-centric solutions to plastic pollution-a field of endeavor we term eco-microbiology.
