Breakage of the Küntscher nail in fractures of the femur after healing has occurred.

Ital J Orthop Traumatol

Divisione di Ortopedia e Traumatologia dell'Ospedale di Mirano.

Published: March 1991

Four cases of breakage of Küntscher intramedullary nails (AO model) are presented. All 4 nails broke after fracture healing had occurred and all 4 presented breakage of the stem in the same site. In these cases breakage of the nails is not due to instability of the fracture, but always derives from superficial micro-cracks, technologically inevitable, due to defects or irregularities in the metal that expand during load application.

Worsening spasticity due to catheter breakage during intrathecal baclofen therapy: a case report.

J Med Case Rep

January 2025

Department of Orthopedic Surgery, Graduate School of Medicine, Kanazawa University, 13-1 Takara-machi, Kanazawa City, Ishikawa, 920-8641, Japan.

Background: Intrathecal baclofen therapy can substantially improve symptoms in patients with severe spasticity owing to traumatic spinal cord injury, multiple sclerosis, cerebral paresis, or tethered cord syndrome. Problems associated with intrathecal catheters include migration, laceration, occlusion, or disconnection. Several case reports have described the management of catheter fragments.

This paper introduces a novel approach for identifying dynamic triadic transformation processes, applied to five networks: three undirected and two directed. Our method significantly enhances the prediction accuracy of network ties. While balance theory offers insights into evolving patterns of triadic structures, its effects on overall network dynamics remain underexplored.

Fast 3D printing of fine, continuous, and soft fibers via embedded solvent exchange.

Nat Commun

Department of Mechanical Science and Engineering, The Grainger College of Engineering, University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, Urbana, IL, USA.

Nature uses fibrous structures for sensing and structural functions as observed in hairs, whiskers, stereocilia, spider silks, and hagfish slime thread skeins. Here, we demonstrate multi-nozzle printing of 3D hair arrays having freeform trajectories at a very high rate, with fiber diameters as fine as 1.5 µm, continuous lengths reaching tens of centimeters, and a wide range of materials with elastic moduli from 5 MPa to 3500 MPa.

The production of mammalian cells in large quantities is essential for various applications. However, scaling up cell culture using existing bioreactors poses significant technical challenges and high costs. To address this, we previously developed an innovative 3D culture system, known as the AlgTube cell culture system, for high-density cell cultivation.
