Introduction: To evaluate the oxidative and antioxidative status in blood plasma after the induction of acute epididymitis in an experimental rat model.

Materials And Methods: Escherichia coli was inoculated into the ductus deferens of rats in the epididymitis group (n = 10), and saline, instead of bacteria, was injected into the saline group (n = 10). No inoculums were performed in control group (n = 10). The infection was confirmed by microbiological tests. As antioxidative parameters, the total peroxide (TP), indicative marker of lipoperoxidation and protein oxidation, and the total antioxidant response (TAR) were measured in blood samples.

Results: Acute epididymitis was demonstrated in all rats of the epididymitis group. The TP level increased significantly in the epididymitis group compared to the other two groups. The TAR level also increased significantly in the infected group (p < 0.05).

Conclusions: Our results are concordant with the fact that the increased oxidative status caused by epididymitis was tolerated by the endogenous antioxidant defense system. Moreover, we suggest that the measurement of oxidative and antioxidative level may be useful in clinical practice to detect defective defense system and prevent possible complications.

: We aimed to determine the proportion of bacterial etiology in pediatric acute epididymitis (AE) and to compare the predictive accuracy of C-reactive protein (CRP) and urinalysis. : Pediatric patients diagnosed with AE in National Taiwan University Hospital from 2009 to 2018 were retrospectively identified. Patient profiles, including clinical symptoms, physical findings, laboratory data, and treatment types, were collected.

Genital lymphatic filariasis (LF) is a condition that can present both acutely and chronically, complicating its diagnosis due to nonspecific symptoms. This case report describes an 11-year-old boy who presented with symptoms of acute scrotum. Initial Doppler ultrasound suggested acute epididymo-orchitis; however, despite conservative management, the symptoms persisted, prompting surgical exploration.

The impact of housing temperature on exercise-induced metabolic adaptations is not well understood, despite extensive research on the benefits of exercise for metabolic health. The aim of this study was to elucidate how housing temperatures influence the molecular responses and metabolic benefits of exercise in mice. Male C57BL/6N mice were housed at either room temperature (RT, 21°C) or in a thermoneutral environment (TN, 29°C) and subjected to either a 6-week or acute exercise regimen.

Purpose: To investigate the prognostic value of human epididymis protein 4 (HE4) in patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI).

Patients And Methods: A total of 212 consecutive patients diagnosed with AMI in the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine of Hunan Provincial People's Hospital from June 2020 to May 2021 were enrolled. We determined plasma HE4 levels at baseline.

Introduction: Type 2 diabetes, characterized by hyperglycemia, is closely linked to obesity and low-grade inflammation. Acute cocoa flavanols (CF) intake has demonstrated benefits in vasoreactivity, cognitive functions, and antioxidant enzyme activity. However, the physiological mechanisms of CF concerning glucose uptake, inflammatory mediators, and their interplay with aerobic exercise remain unclear in populations with metabolic diseases.
