Background: Surgery for tumors in the cerebellopontine angle is always a significant challenge due to the densely packed neurovascular structures, the narrow deep location, and the complex relationship between the lesions and surrounding neurovascular structures. Recently, great attention has been given to the neuroendoscope for its exclusive advantages, which have added a new dimension to many classical microscopic surgeries. However, the feasibility and advisability of fully endoscopic neurosurgery for cerebellopontine angle tumors remain to be further evaluated.

Prompt emergence from general anesthesia is crucial after neurosurgical procedures, such as craniotomies, to facilitate timely neurological evaluation for identification of intraoperative complications. Delayed emergence can be caused by residual anesthetics, metabolic imbalances, and intracranial pathology, for which an eye examination can provide early diagnostic clues. The sunset sign (or setting sun sign), characterized by a downward deviation of the eyes, can be an early indicator of raised intracranial pressure (ICP) or midbrain compression, as is commonly observed in states of hydrocephalus or periaqueductal or tectal plate dysfunction.

Background: Post-COVID-19 syndrome refers to a variety of symptoms that affect different organs in the body and can persist 28 days following exposure to COVID-19. Previous studies have shown that COVID-19 affects not only elderly individuals but also young adults. However, the influence of post-COVID-19 syndrome on young adults has not been studied sufficiently.

The Site of Protonation Affects the Dissociation of Protonated α- and β-Pinene Ions.

Rapid Commun Mass Spectrom

March 2025

Department of Chemistry and Biomolecular Sciences, University of Ottawa, Ottawa, Canada.

Rationale: In electrospray ionization and atmospheric pressure chemical ionization, the protonation site directly guides the ion's dissociation. But what if the site of protonation is ambiguous? In this study, we explored the unimolecular reactions of protonated α- and β-pinene ions with a combination of tandem mass spectrometry and theory. Each has multiple potential protonation sites that influence their chemistry.

Background: The aim of this study was to compare the mechanical properties of the polymer brackets with metal and ceramic brackets and verify if the polymer brackets could be used clinically.

Materials And Methods: A thorough search was conducted in four electronic databases, including Scopus, PubMed, Cochrane, Ovid, and Lilacs, with article selection based on Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis standards. A computerized search of the database was done from January 1990 to June 2024.
