Social, pharmacological, and environmental alterations were responsible for a change in the classical clinical picture of many long-forgotten diseases. The authors comparatively analyzed the clinical picture of parenchymatous keratitis of varying genesis in 16 patients (20 cases) with this condition. The distinguishing characteristics of keratitis were noted in herpes, tuberculosis, syphilis, sarcoidosis, the knowledge of which allows ophthalmologists to make an etiological diagnosis in earlier periods.

The high-positive VDRL, the presence of the AT antigen, the bilateral low hearing perception and the left low hearing transmission associated with minimal dental malformations suggest the luetic congenital etiology of the disease. The AT positive-test at the patient's mother (which VDRL is negative) shows a tardive luetic infection during the pregnancy, that has determined the apparition at the fetus of congenital lately lues.

A 52-year-old woman contracted a serious influenza; three weeks later a dropshaped patch, whitish-yellow in color and deeply vascularized, was seen on the posterior upper surface of the cornea of one eye. It was accompanied by an anterior uveitis. The Tyndall phenomenon was positive.

The typical distinguishing features of special cases which require contact lenses for satisfactory vision are described. Hence in the first case with anisometria associated with irregular astigmatism of one eye, to which a toric soft contact lens was adapted. In the second case a visual acuity of only 0,6 monocular was attained with the best spectacle lens, however with contact lense the visual acuity was 1.
