AI Article Synopsis

  • Two new iridoids, named lamiophlomiol A and B, were discovered from the roots of the plant Lamiophlomis rotata.
  • These compounds are epimers, meaning they have the same molecular formula but differ in the arrangement of atoms.
  • Their structures were determined using various spectroscopic and chemical analysis techniques.

Article Abstract

Two new highly oxygenated iridoids, named lamiophlomiol A and B, were isolated from an alcohol extract of the roots of Lamiophlomis rotata (Labiatea) by silica gel G column chromatography. Lamiophlomiol A and B are two epimers. Their structures were elucidated to be Ia and Ib with spectroscopic and chemical analysis.

() is a Tibetan medicinal herb used for centuries that contains iridoid glycosides (IGs), which are pharmacologically active ingredients and can be used for quality control. The IG profiles of the underground and aerial parts of the plant were determined by UPLC-TOF-MS to evaluate the similarity and variability of the different herbal parts listed in the Chinese Pharmacopoeia. Twenty-six IGs were detected in the total ion current (TIC) profile of , and twenty-two of these were identified by comparing the retention times and mass spectra of the compounds to those of authentic standards.

Objective: To establish a rapid chromatographic method to separate the iridoid glycosides from Lamioplomis rotata, and to identify the target compounds with PDA and MS.

Methods: Methanol-water gradient elution was used to separate and analyze the target compounds. The fluid fractions were gathered according to the chromatogram and dried with the nitrogen airflow.
