Is Intracranial Pressure Monitoring After Open Cranial Procedures Associated With Outcome?

Introduction: It is unclear if intracranial pressure monitoring (ICPM) after open cranial procedures (craniotomy or craniectomy) (OC) for traumatic brain injury is associated with mortality. We hypothesized that ICPM placed early after OC was associated with lower mortality compared to no ICPM or delayed ICPM placement.
Methods: Using 2020-2021 data from the American College of Surgeons Trauma Quality Improvement Program, patients ≥16 y from level 1 and 2 trauma centers who underwent OC were divided into two groups: ICPM placed within 72 h of OC (early) and no ICPM or ICPM placed after 72 h (none/delayed).
Purpose: The light adjustable lens (LAL) (RxSight, Aliso Viejo, CA) is a premium intraocular lens that allows for correction of residual refractive error and astigmatism following implantation. Herein, we describe the surgical approach and evaluate the visual outcomes of patients following scleral fixation of the LAL.
Methods: Retrospective, single-surgeon surgical case series of 3 patients (3 eyes) with intraocular lens complications, who underwent combined pars plana vitrectomy and sutureless needle assisted intrascleral haptic fixation of the LAL between April 2022, to August 2023.

Although various methods for PMI determination have been developed, only an approximate estimation is still achievable, and an accurate PMI indication is still challenging. Introduction: Progressing myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) into acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is an indication for hypomethylating therapy (HMA, 5-Azacytidine (AZA)) and a BCL2 inhibitor (Venetoclax, VEN) for intensive chemotherapy ineligible patients. Mouse models that engraft primary AML samples may further advance VEN + AZA resistance research.
Methods: We generated a set of transplantable murine PDX models from MDS/AML patients who developed resistance to VEN + AZA and compared the differences in hematopoiesis of the PDX models with primary bone marrow samples at the genetic level.

Background: Vitamin K antagonists (VKA) continue to be the principal anticoagulants for both the treatment and prevention of venous thromboembolism. The use of VKA often requires regular monitoring to avoid over-anticoagulation and prevent thromboembolic complications. The aim was to determine the indication for VKA use and factors associated with suboptimal anticoagulation control among patients in northern Tanzania.
