We study a parametrically driven Ginzburg-Landau equation model with nonlinear management. The system is made of laterally coupled long active waveguides placed along a circumference. Stationary solutions of three kinds are found: periodic Ising states and two types of Bloch states, staggered and unstaggered. The stability of these states is investigated analytically and numerically. The nonlinear dynamics of the Bloch states are described by a complex Ginzburg-Landau equation with linear and nonlinear parametric driving. The switching between the staggered and unstaggered Bloch states under the action of direct ac forces is shown.

Surface induced crystallization/amorphization of a Germanium-antimony-tellurium (GST) nanolayer is investigated using the phase field model. A Ginzburg-Landau (GL) equation introduces an external surface layer (ESL) within which the surface energy and elastic properties are properly distributed. Next, the coupled GL and elasticity equations for the crystallization/amorphization are solved.

In this paper, using hydrodynamic entropy, we quantify multiscale disorder in Euler and hydrodynamic turbulence. These examples illustrate that the hydrodynamic entropy is not extensive because it is not proportional to the system size. Consequently, we cannot add hydrodynamic and thermodynamic entropies, which measure disorder at macroscopic and microscopic scales, respectively.

We employ weakly nonlinear theory to derive an amplitude equation for the conserved-Hopf instability, i.e., a generic large-scale oscillatory instability for systems with two conservation laws.

In the domain growth process, small structures gradually vanish, leaving behind larger ones. We investigate spectral energy transfers in two standard models for domain growth: (a) the Cahn-Hilliard (CH) equation with conserved dynamics and (b) the time-dependent Ginzburg-Landau (TDGL) equation with nonconserved dynamics. The nonlinear terms in these equations dissipate fluctuations and facilitate energy transfers among Fourier modes.
